This paper examined the expressions using “A method of quasi-substantive” and “A auxiliaryword of quasi-substantiv” 「の」 which was used in the works of Hudaba Dei Simei, particularly “UKIGUMO", who was the pioneer of the unification of the written and spoken language. First, direct speech and reported speech are dealt with separately. And inflected words are classified according to their parts of speech and uses. Next, auxiliary verbs are examined one by one. Finally, postpositional words are grouped according to their uses. The findings are presented in the concluding section of Chapter 7. Summing up the findings, it can be said that in the beginning of Meiji period, written language dominated over spoken language but the two forms started to be mingled from the year of meiji 10.
