A propulsion nozzle having a substantially cylindrical translatable shroud partially defining an outer flow duct and an articulated plug mounted within the shroud to partially define an inner coannular flow duct. A variable position valve comprises the downstream portion of the common wall between the ducts. The valve cooperates with the shroud and the plug, as required, to form a variable area throat for either flow duct, or both.

A propulsion nozzle comprising: a shroud partially defining an outer flow duct; an articulated plug mounted within said shroud to partially define an inner flow duct; and a variable position valve means mounted intermediate said shroud and said plug and cooperating therewith to partially define said inner and said outer ducts, said valve being positionable to form a variable throat, as desired, either in cooperation with said plug for said inner duct, or in cooperation with said shroud for said outer duct, or both and wherein said shroud is translatable to a position downstream of said valve means to partially define, in cooperation with said plug, a flow expansion portion of said nozzle.
