A sealed pressurizable and interchangeable ink cartridge for an ink jet printer having a cartridge receptacle with an ink supply connector protrudable therefrom, said cartridge comprising: a housing adapted to be received by the printer receptacle, a piston slidably engaged within said housing, means for providing a fluid seal between the piston and said housing as it slides back and forth therein, and a septum carried by said piston and forming a sealed inlet that is penetratable by said receptacle connector, whereby fluid communication is achieved between the interior of the cartridge and the receptacle and further whereby the cartridge can be pressurized by moving said piston with respect to said housing to reduce the fluid volume therein.
