A method and means for improving the efficiency of movable-piston internal combustion engines and reducing the pollution of the environment produced by their operation. The exhaust gases from the engine are compressed and afterburnt, and this resulting heat energy is converted to mechanical energy in a gas turbine connected to the engine shaft.
