Described is a process for augmenting or enhancing the aroma or taste of a smoking tobacco comprising the step of intimately admixing with smoking tobacco, an organoleptic property augmenting or enhancing quantity of a cyclic chemical compound having a structure selected from the group consisting of: [Figure] wherein R1 is selected from the group consisting of hyrogen and methyl; R2 is C3-C5 alkyl or alkenyl; and R5 is hydrogen or C1-C4 acyl and wherein one of the dashed lines is a carbon-carbon single bond and the other of the dashed lines is a carbon-carbon double bond. Also described is a smoking tobacco article comprising (i) smoking tobacco; (ii) a wrapper holding in place said smoking tobacco and in intimate contact with a portion of said smoking tobacco and (iii) optionally a filter unit in partial contact with said wrapper and said smoking tobacco; said filter unit or said smoking tobacco having intimately admixed therewith at least one cyclic chemical compound having a structure selected from the group consisting of: [Figure] wherein R1 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and methyl; R2 is C3-C5 alkyl or alkenyl; and R5 is hydrogen or C1-C4 acyl and wherein one of the dashed lines is a carbon-carbon single bond and the other of the dashed lines is a carbon-carbon double bond.
