To prevent microwave energy which is brought into the cooking chamber or muffle from a high frequency generator from getting to the outside through the opening in the muffle wall, i.e. through the clearance, a microwave seal is provided comprising a metallic disc spaced a short distance from and parallel to the muffle wall to form a gap-like microwave transmission line and an annular slot-like microwave pocket adjacent the transmission line with the opening of the pocket next to the opening in the muffle wall.
