A hip supported backpack having use for quick disconnection of the backpack to leave the user free thereof. The backpack is supported by a wide hip belt having two sockets at the rear which receive off-set short support shafts connected to the backpack frame. The load bearing portion of the backpack frame is borne in the sockets and the backpack is stabilized to prevent the pack from falling backwards by means of a breast strap fitting around the breast of the user.
