Improvements in a handbag or the like are disclosed which include an additional umbrella compartment adjacent the bottom of the bag being accessible through an opening in the bottom surface of the bag. The additional, out-of-the-way compartment is formed inside the handbag in soft-sided fashion, i.e., without the need for a rigid tubular compartment being added to the bag.
