Process for the manufacture of an electrode for electrochemical processes, according to which an electrically conductive substrate is coated with a material containing a powder of at least one metal which is active for electrochemical proton reduction and the said material is heated on the substrate, successively in an oxidizing atmosphere and then in a reducing atmosphere, characterized in that a material is employed in which the abovementioned active metal is in the form of an unsintered powder, associated with colloidal silica.
