A rotor unit for a road surface layer reproducing machine for scarifying/mixing asphalt pavement comprising: a support frame, said support frame including a mixing chamber in a lower section thereof, said mixing chamber having an opening at a lowermost end thereof, said support frame further including a heating room in an upper portion thereof, said heating room including heating means for heating said mixing chamber to and maintaining said mixing chamber at a temperature which is greater than the ambient temperature; a plurality of power cylinder means operatively coupling said support frame member to a lower portion of a vehicle body of the road surface layer reproducing machine; and a plurality of rotor means mounted to said support frame so as to be disposed in said mixing chamber such that a longitudinal axis of each said rotor means extends perpendicularly to a direction of movement of the vehicle body, the longitudinal axis of each said rotor means being disposed substantially parallel to one another such that said rotor means are mounted in rows, each said rotor means being adapted to rotate about its respective longitudinal axis such that each rotor means rotates in a direction opposite to a next adjacent rotor means.
