A plurality of indexing brackets having indexing apertures are secured to a retractable boom in spaced relation. A like plurality of indexing bulkheads are hinged to a foldable panel array (or collapsible spiral antenna) at spaced hinge axes. The bulkheads have indexing prongs which engage the indexing apertures, the brackets pullings the bulkheads therewith as the indexing apertures and prongs engage. Force contact spring motors urge the brackets and bulkheads together in the engaged state. Alignment guides align the brackets and bulkheads during engagement and disengagement of the indexing apertures and prongs.

A deployment system for a collapsible structure comprising: a support; an extensible boom secured to the support; a collapsible structure which is elongated and extended in the deployed orientation and collapsed and folded in the retracted orientation; a first means for pivotally securing the end of said structure to the boom adjacent an end of said boom; a second means secured to the boom and to the structure for releasably securing selected spaced portions of said structure to said boom at corresponding spaced locations along the length thereof with negligible play as said boom extends, and for uncoupling said selected portions from said boom as said boom retracts, said second means including means for aligning the structure to the boom when the portions are uncoupled from the length of the boom; and means coupled to the support and boom for selectively extending and retracting the boom.
