Apparatus for use in exercising the abdominal muscles, which improves the physiological effectiveness of the familiar sit-up exercise, is disclosed. The apparatus is comprised of a specially shaped basin which cradles the pelvis while at the same time the lumber spine is supported by a longitudinal support portion. The angulation between the pelvic basin and the lumber support portion is arched convexly superiorly to accommodate the anatomical transition between the sacrum and the lumber spine.
