A pillar may be interposed between adjacent panels so that the panels are connected together with downwardly bent connecting claws which engage connecting holes in the pillar. An upper horizontal surface of each panel is provided with a ridge or groove having tapered side surfaces. A connector is provided which bridges the horizontal surfaces of adjacent panels and which is provided with a tapered portion which communicates with the corresponding ridge or groove on the panels. In the event that a pillar is used, a bolt is inserted through a central portion of the connector and is screwed into a nut supported on the pillar.
