Fiber-reinforced ceramic matrix composite products are made by providing inorganic fiber reinforcement materials with pyrolytic carbon coatings, combining the carbon-coated fibers with a selected ceramic matrix material to make a composite preform, and consolidating the preform with heat and pressure to form the fiber-reinforced composite.
