A desk arrangement is provided that includes a laterally compressible desk top portion with an upper surface sufficiently adapted to support writing activity thereon. Preferred embodiments of the desk arrangement include a desk top portion that is also resilient. Typically, and preferably, the desk arrangements are composed of a flexible cellular plastic material having at least an upper surface coated with a flexible elastomeric skin.

A lap desk comprising: (a) a laterally compressible, resilient, desk top portion comprising a front wall, an opposite back wall, first and second generally opposite side walls, and an upper surface, wherein: (i) said desk top portion, including said upper surface, comprising a flexible cellular plastic material having a compression deflection value within a range of about 0.2 to 35 psi at 25%; (ii) said desk top portion, including said upper surface, being capable of compressing under a stress directed against at least one of said front or back walls, and subsequently rebounding, after said stress is removed, to at least about 95% of its original size from at least about a 10% compression of its length between said front and back walls; and (iii) said desk top portion, including said upper surface, being coated with a flexible elastomeric skin such that the upper surface is sufficiently adapted to support writing activity thereon; and (b) a compressible, resilient, pedestal portion attached to said desk top portion to form a lap desk; said pedestal portion being coated with a flexible elastomeric skin.
