In a motor car of the type with three front seats side by side the central front seat is set further back than the other two front seats in order to provide adequate lateral restraint for the occupant of that seat when travelling. The passenger compartment of the car also has two separate rear seats whose median planes are slightly inclined to the vertical median plane of the car so that they diverge forwardly.
