A flexible composite comprising one or more layers each of which comprises a flexible substrate layer having a plurality of penetration resistant planar bodies affixed to a surface thereof, said bodies having one or more flexible seams which allow one or more portions of said body to flex along said seams, wherein said bodies are positioned such that said at least one seam of a body is aligned or substantially aligned with a seam of at least one adjacent body to form a combination of continuous or semi continuous seams along which said composite may flex.
