This invention enables the storage of several recyclable materials in a single container by providing a method of dividing ribs and an attachment method that attaches plastic bags to the ribs by the interaction between holes in a fastened flexible strip and projecting knobs located on the dividing ribs. The invention works to hold the bags best when a keyhole, obrounde, oroval hole is used and the strip is slightly stretched to fit over each projecting knob so that when the strip elastically rebounds after stretching it applies a force to the bag material that surrounds the projecting knob.

A container top for a container having an opening and an opening-defining container rim, the top comprising: ribs, including rib ends positioned proximate the container rim, the rib ends being supported by the container rim, the ribs joined at a point within the opening remote from the container rim, the ribs defining separated portions of the opening, the separated portions having respective peripheral edges defined at least in part by the ribs; and fasteners, positioned on the ribs, the fasteners comprising a plurality of projections located along the ribs and elastomeric strips each including a slot thereon constructed and arranged to pass over a respective of the projections with a portion of at least one of the bags located over one of the projections so that the strips secure the bags onto the projections, the slot being sized so that the slot is elastically deformed when the slot is passed over the respective of the projections, wherein each of the bags extend into the container, an open portion of each of the bags being supported about the peripheral edge of a respective of the separated portions of the opening defined by the ribs. 2. The container top as set forth in claim 1 wherein the ribs comprise three ribs and wherein each of the three ribs extend from the container rim to a convergence point substantially at a geometric center of the opening. 3. The container top as set forth in claim 2 further comprising includes a supporting rim constructed and arranged to engage with and be supported by the container rim about a perimeter of the container rim. 4. The container top as set forth in claim 1 further comprising includes a supporting rim constructed and arranged to engage with and be supported by the container rim about a perimeter of the container rim. 5. The container top as set forth in claim 4 wherein the rim includes a projection directed toward a surface of the container constructed and arranged to increase interengagement pressure between the container and the rim to enhance securing of the rim to the container. 6. The container top as set forth in claim 4 wherein each of the supporting rim and the container rim are circular. 7. The container top as set forth in claim 6 wherein each of the ribs is substantially linear and each of the ribs defines an angle with respect to adjacent of the ribs at the convergence point of approximately 120°. 8. The container top as set forth in claim 1 wherein each of the strips of flexible material extend from the point within the opening remote from the container rim and each of the strips having slots thereon, the slots being located along a length of extension of each of the strips to be aligned with a respective projection on each of the ribs and each of the slots being sized so that each of the slots is elastically deformed when it is passed over a respective projection. 9. The container top as set forth in claim 1 wherein the projections each comprise a shaft secured to one of the ribs and an enlarged rounded head positioned outwardly of the shaft, the enlarged rounded head being sized so that the slot of each of the strips is elastically deformed to pass over the enlarged rounded head, whereby the enlarged rounded head resists removal of a strip when the strip is located on the shaft. 10. The container top as set forth in claim 8 wherein each of the ribs extend from the rim to a convergence point and the strips of flexible material are fastened at the convergence point of the ribs and each extend along an outwardly disposed surface of respective of the ribs. 11. The container top as set forth in claim 1 wherein the flexible bags comprise plastic trash bags. 12. The container top as set forth in claim 1 wherein each of the strips comprises a plurality of slots thereon constructed and arranged to pass over a plurality of respective projections located on one of the ribs, each of the slots being sized so that the slots are elastically deformed when the slots are passed over the respective projections on the rib. 13. A method for separating a container into individual compartments and locating bags in the compartments comprising: providing a container having an opening and an opening-defining container rim; segmenting the opening into a plurality of portions proximate the rim, the portions each defining peripheral edges; and detachably supporting opening ends of flexible bags to each of the peripheral edges, the bags extending into the container, the step of detachably supporting including providing strips of flexible material each having a slot thereon and projections at predetermined points on the peripheral edges, and locating a portion of at least one of the flexible bags over at least one of the projections and forcibly attaching at lease one of the flexible strips to the one of the projections over the flexible bag and through the slot, the slot being sized so that the slot is elastically deformed when the slot is passed over the one of the projections and thereby resists removal therefrom.
