A lid formed from plastics material and used as a closure for a drinking vessel is disclosed. The lid includes a main disc closure portion and a perimeter wall for mounting the lid on the open top end of the vessel. The lid is characterized by a rupturable depression in the main disc portion which receives and can be ruptured by one end of a drink through straw when pushed by hand.
