An adsorbent for selectively adsorbing carbon monoxide from a gas mixture containing carbon monoxide, comprising; cuprous chloride particles of a size in the range of approximately 1 to 100 millimicrons supported on a macroporous support of an amorphous oxide selected from the group consisting of alumina, silica, silica-alumina and mixtures thereof, said adsorbent exhibiting a substantial hysteresis between the adsorption and desorption isotherms.
