A helical flow compressor/turbine or pump/turbine with integral permanent magnet motor/generator is disclosed which can be configured as a single stage, two stage or three stage rotary machine. The impeller blades for this machine can be either radial for ease of manufacture or curved, with the curve at the leading edge being greater than at the blade root, for maximum fluid dynamic head pressure and maximum efficiency.
