A composition of matter for application to a body surface or membrane to administer oxybutynin by permeation through the body surface or membrane, the composition comprising, in combination, the oxybutynin to be administered, in a therapeutically effective amount; and a permeation-enhancing mixture comprising a monoglyceride or a mixture of monoglycerides, and a lactic ester or a mixture of lactate esters; present in specific concentrations.

[ What is claimed is:] [1.] A method for the treatment of neurogenic bladder disorders comprising:a) administering oxybutinin at a therapeutically effective rate to an area of skin;b) simultaneously administering a permeation enhancer to the area of skin which is sufficient to substantially increase the permeability of the area to the drug; rein oxybutynin is delivered at a therapeutically effective rate of at least about 40-200 .mu.g/hr for an administration period of at least about 24 hours in order to achieve levels of oxybutynin in plasma of about 2-4 ng/mL within about 6-10 hours after initiation of the administration period.
