초록

A printing paper is provided having the appearance of uncoated paper and improved printability properties approaching those of coated papers. Also provided are a surface treatment formulation having a variable viscosity and a method for producing a printing paper having the appearance of uncoated paper and improved printability properties approaching those of coated papers.

[ What is claimed is:] [1.] A printing paper comprising:a paper web; anda layer of formulation applied to and dried on each side of the paper web in an amount of about 2-5 lbs. per side per ream of paper;said formulation comprising a pigment containing about 30-60% by weight total dry ingredients of hollow spherical particles and a binder containing about 40-70% by weight total dry ingredients of a modified starch;the paper characterized by an opacity of about 95-100%, an ash content of about 5-25% by weight, a Sheffield smoothness of about 25-250 cc/min...
