A detergent composition for removing resinous stains including (a) an aromatic compound represented by the general formula (1); and (b) an alkylene oxide compound represented by the general formula (2); and optionally including (c) an alkali metal hydroxide; and (d) water.

[ What is claimed is:] [1.] A detergent composition for removing resinous stains comprising:(a) 50 to 95% by weight of an aromatic compound represented by the general formula (1): [ STR 5 ] wherein R.sup.1 is hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms; X is O, CH.sub.2 O, C.dbd.

[ What is claimed is:] [1.] A detergent composition for removing resinous stains comprising:(a) 50 to 95% by weight of an aromatic compound represented by the general formula (1): [ STR 5 ] wherein R.sup.1 is hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms; X is O, CH.sub.2 O, C.dbd.O, or (CH.sub.2).sub.k ; Y is OH, R.sup.2, or (R.sup.3 O).sub.j H; R.sup.2 is a hydrocarbon group having 1 to 7 carbon atoms; R.sup.3 is an alkylene group having 2 to 3 carbon atoms; k is an integer of 1 or 2; and j is an integer of 1 to 8, provided that at least one of the groups represented by X and the groups represented by Y contains an oxygen atom or oxygen atoms; and(b) 5 to 50% by weight of an alkylene oxide compound represented by the general formula (2): EQU R.sup.4 --O--(R.sup.5 --O).sub.m --R.sup.6, rein R.sup.4 is an alkyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms or allyl group; R.sup.5 is an alkylene group having 2 to 4 carbon atoms; R.sup.6 is hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, an acyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or allyl group; and m is an integer of 1 to 8.
