[ We claim:] [1.] A polycarbonate comprising:(a) carbonate structural units corresponding to structure (I) [ STR 16 ] where R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are independently selected from the group consisting of C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl;X represents CH.sub.2 ;m is an integer from 4 to 7;n is an integer from 1 to 4; andp is an integer from 1 to 4with the proviso that at least one of R.sub.1 or R.sub.2 is in the 3 or 3' position;(b) carbonate structural units selected from the group consisting of(1) carbonate structural units corresponding to [ STR 17 ] where R.sub.3, R.sub.4 and R.sub.6 independently represent C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl,each R.sub.5 is independently selected from the group consisting of H and C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl and each n independently selected from the group consisting of 0,1 and 2,R.sub.7 is H or C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl,(2) carbonate structural units corresponding to [ STR 18 ] where R.sub.8, R.sub.9, R.sub.12 and R.sub.13 are independently C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl,R.sub.10 and R.sub.11 are independently H or C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl,each R.sub.14 is independently selected from the group consisting of H and C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl and each n is independently selected from the group consisting of 0, 1 and 2;(3) carbonate structural units corresponding to [ STR 19 ] where each R.sub.15 is selected independently from the group consisting of H and C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl, and R.sub.16 and R.sub.17 are independently C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl or aryl;(4) carbonate structural units corresponding to structures (II) and (III); and(5) carbonate structural units corresponding to structures (III) and (IV),where the polycarbonate has a glass transition temperature of from about 120.degree. C. to about 185.degree. C. and a water absorption of below about 0.33%.
