A method and system provides a face-to-face video conference utilizing a video mirror. The method and apparatus comprise a first station having a first predetermined sensory setting; a second station having a second predetermined sensory setting; and an imaging system for capturing an image or sub-image at the first station, displaying at least a portion of the image or sub-image at the second station such that it becomes generally visually integrated with the second predetermined sensory setting. Also, disclosed is apparatus and method for effecting a face-to-face presence environment regardless of whether the first and second predetermined sensory settings are the same or different. The stations may be portable and/or modular such that they can be easily constructed or assembled. The stations may also be architectured and/or decorated to further enhance the face-to-face environment created by the video conferencing system and method. Each station may be provided with a plurality of cameras arranged to capture images in a manner which facilitates reducing or eliminating the need to match up borders or seams of the captured images when they are displayed at a remote station.

[ What is claimed is:] [1.] A teleconferencing station comprising:a screen for displaying a first remote image of least one first subject and a second remote image of at least one second subject; where said at least one first subject includes a remote participant who is not included in said at least one second subject and said first and second remote images are not entirely overlaid on top of each other when they are displayed on said screen;a plurality of cameras situated behind a first side of the screen for capturing a plurality of images, at said teleconferencing station, each of said plurality of cameras capturing images of different participant situated on a second side of said screen, said second side opposite said first side;a plurality of audio devices for facilitating the exchange of audio between said teleconferencing station and a remote station; anda plurality of furnishings on which participants situated at said teleconferencing station may be seated,said plurality of furnishings also being situated on said second side;wherein said first remote imaged and said second remote image are displayed on said screen to give any of the participant seated on said plurality of furnishings the feeling of being in the same room and face-to-face with said remote participant.
