초록

Solid gas generant compositions produce low particulates (e.g., condensed ash) when ignited. The solid gas generant compositions most preferably include a nitramine, at least one oxidizer selected from nitrates of strontium or cerium, in admixture with or without potassium perchlorate, and a binder. Graphite may optionally be employed. The gas generant compositions are usefully employed in inflatable vehicle occupant passive restraint systems (e.g., air bag systems).

A solid gas generant composition comprised of:(1) between about 50 wt. % to about 90 wt. %, based on total composition weight, of at least one nitramine selected from the group consisting of cyclotrimethylenetrinitramine, cyclotetramethylenetetranitramine, and 2,4,6,8,10,12-hexanitro-2,4,6,8,10,12-hexaazaisowurtzitane, (2) a binder which is at least one selected from the group consisting of polyvinyl alcohols and poly(alkylene) carbonate, (3) an oxidizer which includes strontium nitrate, and (4) optionally, graphite.
