An excavator has an operator's cab with an engine compartment at the rear which has a laterally facing opening for receiving cooling air that is drawn by an engine fan through a radiator. A duct is provided for transmitting cooling air from an inlet opening in the duct remote from the engine compartment opening. The engine compartment opening faces a wall of the duct so that the sound waves from the engine compartment must be deflected at an angle before reaching the inlet air opening.
