The method for utilizing a plurality of gas injection locations for treating a fuel supply in a fuel cell stack assembly having a plurality of fuel cells according to claim 2, further comprising the steps of: accepting said fuel supply after it has been directed through said first portion of said fuel cell stack assembly; and redirecting said fuel supply from said first portion of said fuel cell stack assembly back through a second portion of said fuel cell stack assembly. 4. The method for utilizing a plurality of gas injection locations for treating a fuel supply in a fuel cell stack assembly having a plurality of fuel cells according to claim 3, further comprising the steps of: injecting said first quantity of said oxidizing gas when said fuel supply is accepted and redirected. 5. The method for utilizing a plurality of gas injection locations for treating a fuel supply in a fuel cell stack assembly having a plurality of fuel cells according to claim 4, further comprising the steps of: injecting an approximately equal percentage of said first and second quantity of oxidizing gas. 6. The method for utilizing a plurality of gas injection locations for treating a fuel supply in a fuel cell stack assembly having a plurality of fuel cells according to claim 4, further comprising the steps of: injecting said first and second quantity of oxidizing gas in a percentage approximately proportional to an area of said fuel cell stack assembly being fed by each of said injections. 7. The method for utilizing a plurality of gas injection locations for treating a fuel supply in a fuel cell stack assembly having a plurality of fuel cells according to claim 4, further comprising the steps of: injecting said first and second quantity of oxidizing gas in a percentage approximately proportional to an average current density in a portion of said fuel cell stack being fed by each of said downstream and upstream treatment means multiplied by the area of each section.
