Preliminary coal, preparation, which may include washing and drying, is followed by wax-impregnation to produce a high-energy, low-moisture, stable feedstock. The wax is preferably obtained from an on-site Fischer-Tropsch reactor that also produces diesel fuel and naptha. and R2is alkyl (C1to C20). 4. A composition according to claim 3, wherein at least one of R1and R2is dodecyl. 5. A composition according to claim 4, wherein one of R1and R2is dodecyl and the other is methyl. 6. A composition according to claim 5, wherein R1is methyl and R2is dodecyl. 7. A composition according to claim 1, wherein X is propyl, R1is methyl, R2is dodecyl, R3is hydrogen, and R4is selected from the group consisting of 1,4-dimethylpentyl, heptyl and decyl. 8. A composition according to claim 7, wherein R4is 1,4-dimethylpentyl. 9. A composition according to claim 1, wherein: R1,R2,R3and R4are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl (C1to C20) and cycloalkyl (C3to C20); and X is selected from the group consisting of alkyl (C2to C10) and alkyl (C2to C10) substituted with cycloalkyl (C3to C20). 10. A composition according to any one of claims 1 to 9, wherein the composition contains one or more compounds of formula (I) at a concentration in the range of 0.0001 to 0.1 w/v %. 11. A composition according to claim 10, wherein the solution has an osmolality of 220 to 320 mOsm/kg. 12. A method of disinfecting a contact lens which comprises soaking the lens in an aqueous disinfecting solution for a time sufficient to disinfect the lens, said solution comprising: a compound of the following formula, in an amount effective to disinfect the lens: wherein: R1and R2are the same or different and are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl (C1to C20), aminoalkyl (C1to C20), aryl, arylalkyl (C3to C20), aryloxyalkyl (C3to C20) and cycloalkyl (C3to C20); R3and R4are the same or different and are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl (C1to C20), aryl, arylalkyl (C3to C20), aryloxyalkyl (C3to C20) and cycloalkyl (C3to C20); and X is alkyl (C2to C20), optionally containing one or more substituents selected from the group consisting of cycloalkyl (C3to C20), aryl, arylalkyl (C3to C20) and aryloxyalkyl (C3to C20); provided that at least one of R1,R2,R3and R4is a substituent other than hydrogen; or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof; and an aqueous vehicle therefor. 13. A method according to claim 12, wherein at least one of R1and R2is a substituent other than hydrogen. 14. A method according to claim 13, wherein at least one of R1and R2is alkyl (C1to C20). 15. A method according to claim 14, wherein at least one of R1and R2is dodecyl. 16. A method according to claim 15, wherein one of R1and R2is dodecyl and the other is methyl. 17. A method according to claim 16, wherein R1is methyl and R2is dodecyl. 18. A method according to claim 12, wherein X is propyl, R1is methyl, R2is dodecyl, R3is hydrogen, and R4is selected from the group consisting of 1,4-dimethylpentyl, heptyl and decyl. 19. A method according to claim 18, wherein R4is 1,4-dimethylpentyl. 20. A method according to claim 12, wherein: R1,R2,R3and R4are selected from consisting of hydrogen, alkyl (C1to C20) and cycloalkyl (C3to C20); and X is selected from the group
