A brake control device prevents movement of a vehicle, when an unsafe condition exists, by automatically applying the parking or other brake. The brake control system may prevent movement should the unsafe condition exist within, on or around, a towed device such as a trailer, a trailer-house or other recreational or non-recreational equipment. The brake control system may set a brake or parking device on the towed device whenever the towed device is disconnected from the motorized vehicle, or whenever equipment on the towed vehicle is extending outward or is otherwise un-stowed in a position unsafe for traveling, whether or not the towed vehicle is connected to the towing vehicle. Interface connections from the towed device to the powered towing vehicle may include wireless, electrical wire, fiber optics, analog, digital, or others. The preferred brake control system separates the controller and electronic operator switch and light/indicia that are handled or viewed by the driver from the actuation system that applies or locks the brakes, to use space more efficiently and to improve braking response time. These signals, such as electronic/electric/optic/wireless signals, travel between the cab and the brake management equipment to apply and release the brakes, and may be much more compact and more easily routed or transmitted through a vehicle than conventional air/hydraulic lines.

The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said base member has opposed side margins which diverge from each other on progressing away from said strap. 3. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein said base member has a dove-tail shaped configuration. 4. The apparatus of claim 1 further comprising a supplementary connector adapted to be secured to a support structure, said supplementary connector having an opening formed therein having a cross-sectional configuration complementary to the configuration of said base member to receive and hold said base member therein. 5. The apparatus of claim 4, wherein said base member has opposed side margins which diverge from each other on progressing away from said strap and said opening comprises a slot which extends transversely of a portion of said supplementary connector and the portion of said base member comprising said diverging side portions is slidably received in said slot. 6. The apparatus of claim 5, wherein said diverging side portions of the base member and said slot have complementary dove-tail shaped configurations. 7. The apparatus of claim 1, which further comprises a supplementary connector adapted to be secured to a support structure and having a receiving opening therein for receiving and holding said base member. 8. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein said supplementary connector has a selected height to serve as a spacer. 9. The apparatus of claim 1, which further comprises an elongate support member and a supplementary connector, said supplementary connector having a first opening formed therein for receiving and holding said base member and a second opening formed therein for receiving and holding a portion of said support member. 10. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein said support member has a selected cross sectional configuration at an end thereof and said supplementary connector comprises an end cap having a cavity complementary to the configuration of said support member to receive and hold said end of the support member. 11. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein said support member is cylindrical and said cavity is substantially cylindrical. 12. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein said supplementary connector is adhesively secured to said support member. 13. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said base member has an opening extending therethrough for receiving a fastener to secure said apparatus to a support structure. 14. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said base member is secured to said strap intermediate and spaced from opposite ends of said strap. 15. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein said latching mechanism is secured to one end of said strap and is positioned to receive the opposite end of said strap. 16. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein said strap is adapted to be wrapped around a pipe to be supported, said strap having an inner face positioned to engage a pipe and an opposite outer face, and said latching mechanism projects outwardly from said outer face. 17. The apparatus of claim 16, wherein said base member extends outwardly from said outer face. 18. The apparatus of claim 17, wherein said strap is adapted to be wrapped around a pipe to be supported, said strap having an inner face positioned to engage a pipe and an opposite outer face, and said base member extends outwardly from said outer face. 19. Apparatus for supporting a pipe on an elongate support member having a selected cross-sectional one end configuration at one end thereof, the apparatus comprising: a base member, an elongate flexible strap secured to said base member, with said base member having opposed side margins which diverge from each other on progressing away from said strap, said strap having ratchet teeth formed along at least one side th
