A method and composition are disclosed for preventing uncontrolled exothermic reaction in the presence of a catalyst. A catalyst deployed as a finely divided powder which is attached to the surface of a low melting point wax or wax-like material which is utilized as a carrier for the catalyst. During operation should the catalyst overheat due to uncontrolled conditions brought about by a run-away reaction the heat of reaction melts the low melting point wax which would itself wet the surface of the catalyst and prevent further catalysis.

A method for preventing uncontrolled exothermic catalysis of hydrogen gas in ambient air, comprising the steps of: providing a finely divided powder of a catalyst composite, said catalyst composite powder comprising a catalyst metal dispersed on the surface of an inert porous substrate material, said catalyst metal selected from the group of elements from the Periodic Table of Elements consisting of New IUPAC Groups 8-10, rhenium, and combinations and alloys thereof; fixing a first quantity of said catalyst composite powder into one or more pieces...
