An electro-therapy apparatus and method for providing therapeutic electric current to a treatment site of a patient, having means for providing two oscillating or pulsing electric alternating currents, of frequencies which differ from each other by as little as 1 Hz and up to about 250 Hz, but each being of frequency at least about 1 KHz. The apparatus and method requires only one feed electrode adapted to feed the electric currents to selected feed sites on or beneath the epidermal or mucous surface of the patient, and only one return electrode adapted to be positioned on or beneath the epidermal or mucous surface of the patient, locally to the treatment site. The apparatus includes a feedback subsystem to detect impedance changes in the patient and accordingly adjust the output of the apparatus.

1. A method of providing therapeutic electric current to a treatment site of a patient, the method comprising:providing an electro-therapy apparatus comprising:a signal generator configured to produce first and second signals;at least one feed electrode pad connected to the signal generator; andat least one return electrode pad;positioning said feed electrode pad on a first portion of the patient's body andpositioning said return electrode pad on a second portion of the patient'sbody such that the feed electrode pad and the return electrode pad arepositioned on opposite sides of a volume of tissue of the patient, and thetreatment site is located on a line vector between the feed electrode pad andthe return electrode pad;forming a therapeutic signal from said first and second signals; andoutputting the therapeutic signal through a single feed electrode pad. 2. The method according to claim 1, wherein forming the therapeutic signal comprises individually applying the first and second signals to the single feed electrode pad. 3. The method according to claim 1, wherein forming the therapeutic signal comprises electronically summing the first and second signals prior to entering the single feed electrode pad. 4. The method according to claim 1, wherein the feed electrode pad and the return electrode pad are associated with at least one feed electrode and at least one return electrode, respectively. 5. The method according to claim 1, wherein the first and second signals are sinusoidal alternating current signals having a frequency difference of between 1 Hz and 250 Hz, each signal have a frequency at least about 1 KHz. 6. The method according to claim 1, comprising filtering to reduce a DC component of at least one of the first signal, the second signal and the therapeutic signal. 7. The method according to claim 1, further comprising: monitoring at least one of a current and a voltage associated with the patient's use of the apparatus; and controlling the therapeutic signal in response thereto. 8. The method according to claim 7, further comprising: controlling the therapeutic signal so as to maintain a monitored voltage at a constant voltage level. 9. The method according to claim 1, comprising: providing an electrotherapy apparatus having a feed electrode pad with an area that is at least twice as large as an area of the return electrode pad. 10. The method according to claim 1, comprising: providing an electro-therapy apparatus having a plurality of feed electrode pads; positioning said plurality of feed electrode pads on the patient's body; and switching between said plurality of feed electrode pads such that only one of said plurality of feed electrode pads outputs the therapeutic signal at any given instant. 11. The method according to claim 10, comprising switching between said plurality of feed electrode pads during zero crossings of the therapeutic signal. 12. The method according to claim 10, comprising switching between said plurality of feed electrode pads at a rate of 10-50 Hz. 13. The method according to claim 1, comprising: providing an electro-therapy apparatus having a plurality of return electrode pads; positioning said plurality of return electrode pads on the patient's body; and switching between said plurality of return electrode pads such that only one of said plurality of return electrode pads is active at any given instant. 14. The method according to claim 13, comprising switching between said plurality of return electrode pads during zero crossings of the therapeutic signal. 15. The method according to claim 13, comprising switching between said plurality of return electrode pads at a rate of 10-50 Hz. 16. The method according to claim 13, comprising: providing an electro-therapy apparatus having a plurality of feed electrode pads; positioning said plurality of feed electrode pads on the patient's body; and switching between said plurality of feed electrode pads such that only one of said plurality of f eed electrode pads outputs the therapeutic signal at any given instant. 17. The method according to claim 16, comprising switching between said plurality of feed electrode pads and also switching between said plurality of return electrode pads, during zero crossings of the therapeutic signal. 18. The method according to claim 16, switching between said plurality of feed electrode pads at a rate of 10-50 Hz and switching between said plurality of return electrode pads at a rate of 10-50 Hz. 19. The method according to claim 1, comprising switching between said plurality of feed electrode pads at a rate of 10-50 Hz and switching between said plurality of return electrode pads at a rate of 10-50 Hz. 20. The method according to claim 1, wherein the treatment site comprises at least one of bone and cartilage. 21. The method according to claim 1, wherein the treatment site comprises muscle. 22. The method according to claim 1, wherein the patient is experiencing pain at the treatment site. 23. The method according to claim 1, wherein the therapeutic electric current is applied during childbirth. 24. The method according to claim 1, wherein the therapeutic electric current is applied during surgery. 25. The method according to claim 1, wherein the therapeutic electric current is applied in conjunction with a chemical drug delivery system to accelerate delivery of at least one drug into a volume of tissue.
