A guidance seeker system for a projectile includes a plurality of photoconductive sensing elements symmetrically disposed about a central axis of the projectile. When a target is illuminated with a light source, a lens transmits light reflected from the target to one or more of the photoconductive sensing elements. Dependent on which photoconductive sensing element is irradiated, a variance between the line of flight of the projectile and the target is determined. A voltage impulse resulting from irradiation of the photoconductive sensing element triggers actuation of a course corrector, such as a diverter, to nudge the line of flight of the projectile to increase the likelihood of the projectile reaching the desired target. This guidance seeking system is particularly effective when the target is designated with a pulsed laser.

A guidance seeker system effective to guide a projectile to a target, comprising:an optics package disposed at a forward end of said projectile, said optics package including a plurality of photoconductive sensing elements and a lens disposed between said target and said photoconductive sensing elements at a distance, D, from said photoconductive sensing elements;a plurality of course correctors mounted on an exterior surface of said projectile wherein illumination of one or more of said photoconductive sensing elements generates a pulse for selecting and activating one of said plurality of course correctors to reduce a variance between a present flight path of said projectile and said target; anda recirculating shift register disposed between said photoconductive sensing elements and said course correctors, said recirculating shift register receiving and transmitting said generated pulse to a first selected course corrector for activation thereof, wherein when said first selected course correctors is inactive said recirculating shift register delays transmission of said generated pulse for a predetermined time period to select and activate a second course corrector that has rotated to an original position of said first selected course corrector. 2. The guidance seeker system of claim 1 wherein said photoconductive sensing elements are disposed on a common plane and are symmetrically disposed about a common axis. 3. The guidance seeker system of claim 2 wherein said common axis is aligned with a line of flight of said projectile and said common axis is free of photoconductive sensing elements. 4. The guidance seeker system of claim 3 wherein said photoconductive sensing elements are housed within a photodetector having a metallic case that functions as a common cathode. 5. The guidance seeker system of claim 3 having from 4 to 20 photoconductive sensing elements. 6. The guidance seeker system of claim 1 wherein when at least two of said photoconductive sensing elements are illuminated said at least two illuminated sensing elements each generate an electrical pulse having an intensity proportional to an intensity of an illuminating beam and a surface area of said sensing element illuminated by said illuminating beam, said intensities of said electrical pulses representing a divergence of said projectile from said target and an angle of rotation between said projectile and said target. 7. A guidance seeker system effective to guide a projectile to a target, comprising:an optics package disposed at a forward end of said projectile, said optics package including a plurality of photoconductive sensing elements and a lens disposed between said target and said photoconductive sensing elements at a distance, D, from said photoconductive sensing elements;a plurality of course correctors mounted on an exterior surface of said projectile wherein illumination of one or more of said photoconductive sensing elements generates a pulse for selecting and activating one of said plurality of course correctors to reduce a variance between a present flight path of said projectile and said target; anda recirculating shift register disposed between said photoconductive sensing elements and said course correctors, said recirculating shift register receiving and transmitting said generated pulse to a first selected course corrector for activation thereof, wherein when said first selected course correctors is inactive said recirculating shift register selects and activates a second course corrector;wherein said first selected course corrector is aligned with said illuminated photoconductive sensing elements within a frame of reference, and wherein said recirculating shift register selects and activates said second course correctors by delaying transmission of said received pulse for a time period such that said second course corrector rotates to a position of said first selected course corrector within said frame of reference. 8. The guidance seeke r system of claim 7 wherein said time period is equal to F/N where F is a multiple of a spin frequency of said projectile and N is a number of photoconductive sensing elements.
