A composite structure according to claim 1, wherein the ceramic object comprises up to 1.5% TiO 2 , up to 1.5% Fe 2 O 3 and up to 1.5% P 2 O 5 . 5. A composite structure according to claim 1, wherein the ceramic object comprises 50-70% SiO 2 and 7-12.5% B 2 O 3 . 6. A composite structure according to claim 1, wherein the ceramic object comprises 60-85% SiO 2 and 0-8% B 2 O 3 . 7. A composite structure according to claim 1, wherein the ceramic object comprises about 13 parts by weight Al 2 O 3 , from about 57 to about 60 parts by weight SiO 2 , at least about 9 parts by weight B 2 O 3 , and from about 10 to about 14 parts by weight alkali metal oxides. 8. A composite structure according to claim 1, wherein the ceramic object comprises about 13 parts by weight Al 2 O 3 , from about 57 to about 60 parts by weight SiO 2 , at least about 9 parts by weight B 2 O 3 , from about 10 to about 14 parts by weight alkali metal oxides, and from about 1 to about 6 parts by weight CaO. 9. A composite structure according to claim 1, wherein the ceramic object comprises at least about 12 parts by weight Al 2 O 3 , from about 65 to about 75 parts by weight SiO 2 , from about 1 to about 5 parts by weight B 2 O 3 , and from about 7 to about 10 parts by weight alkali metal oxides. 10. A composite structure according to claim 1, wherein the ceramic object comprises at least about 12 parts by weight Al 2 O 3 , from about 65 to about 75 parts by weight SiO 2 , from about 1 to about 5 parts by weight B 2 O 3 , from about 7 to about 10 parts by weight alkali metal oxides, and less than about 0.9 parts by weight CaO.
