The invention pertains to means and methods for enabling the further use of previously negative assets, and particularly from those facilities formed from gypsum waste, such as that suitable for forming gypsum stacks. Waste containment or landfill facilities are formed from the conversion of gypsum refuse waste materials derived from gypsum mining and processing, and particularly from such facilities as they are formed in place from such gypsum-based refuse. Such facilities can be utilized, rented or leased as waste containment facilities for the short-term, long-term or permanent storage of non-gypsum waste materials such as solid waste, community refuse materials, biomass, industrial waste, phosphate waste, and for composting or otherwise processing materials such as biomass. Advantageously, methods of the invention comprehend also the storage and processing of non-gypsum waste materials within a containment facility according to the invention, and the sale or further use of products derived from that processing.

1. A method for forming gypsum-based refuse into one or more containment facilities formed from gypsum refuse consisting of one or more existing gypsum stacks or a gypsum waste stream in a state suitable for forming or enlarging a gypsum stack, said facility being suitable for storing or processing
1. A method for forming gypsum-based refuse into one or more containment facilities formed from gypsum refuse consisting of one or more existing gypsum stacks or a gypsum waste stream in a state suitable for forming or enlarging a gypsum stack, said facility being suitable for storing or processing waste, comprising the steps of:A. providing said gypsum-based refuse to a site in a form suitable for forming said one or more containment facilities, and B. applying said gysum-based refuse to at least a portion of said site such that said one or more containment facilities are formed. 2. The method of claim 1, wherein said steps A and B are performed contemporaneously.3. The method of claim 1, wherein said form of said gypsum-based refuse is one or more forms from the group consisting of solids, aggregates, slurries, pastes, liquids, and aerosols, and combinations thereof.4. The method of claim 1, wherein said gypsum-based refuse is one or more refuses selected from the group consisting of mine refuse, factory refuse, hazardous refuse, industrial refuse, construction refuse, agricultural refuse, municipal refuse, community refuse, and quarry refuse.5. The method of claim 1, wherein said facility comprises at least one concavity, said concavity being suitable for functioning to contain or process said waste.6. The method of claim 5, wherein said gypsum-based refuse is formed into a plurality of concavities.7. The method of claim 6, further comprising the step ofD. providing for said at least one concavity, one or more from the group consisting of pumps, filters, drains, drain matrices, partitions, subcontainers, sumps, leachate collection systems, microbial reservoirs, valves, valving means for directing or controlling the flow of fluids or leachate from said waste, one or more cover systems, one or more means for monitoring the content, conditions, or changes of said waste contained in said facility, and one or more means for controlling the content, conditions, or changes of said waste contained in said facility. 8. A facility suitable for storing or processing waste, said facility formed according to the method of claim 7.9. The method of claim 5, further comprising the step of:C. providing a lining for said at least one concavity, wherein said lining comprises one or more sheetlike elements from the group consisting of membranes, geomembranes, geosynthetic clay liners, felt, glass fibers, fiberglass, filtration fabrics, geonets, geotextiles, geogrids, geodrains, geopipes, and geocomposites. 10. The facility of claim 9, wherein said sheetlike elements comprise HDPE.11. A facility suitable for storing or processing waste, said facility formed according to method of claim 9.12. The method of claim 1, wherein said gypsum-based refuse is mixed with cementitious additives selected from the group including Portland cement and concrete.13. The method of claim 1, wherein during Step B, means for monitoring or controlling the conditions, content, and changes of waste contained in said facility are positioned within said facility, andwherein said means for monitoring or controlling is one or more selected from the group consisting of cameras, microphones, pumps, sumps, drains, drain matrices, sumps, leachate collection systems, valves, valving means for directing or controlling the flow of fluids or leachate from said waste, means for removing processed waste, data collection means, data forwarding means, data analysis means, gas detectors, gas identification sensors, chemical sensors, pressure sensors, temperature sensors, fluid flow sensors, pH sensors, gas sampling means, gas recovery means, microbial sensors and microbial condition sensors. 14. A facility suitable for storing or processing waste, said facility formed according to the method of claim 13.15. A facility according to claim 13, wherein said facility is constructed and arranged to store or process one or more types of waste from the group consisting of food production waste, industrial waste, forest waste, medical waste, hazardous waste, municipal waste, aquatic waste, marine waste, sewage, community waste, industrial waste, agricultural waste, animal husbandry waste, food production waste and biomass, wherein said biomass comprises one or more biomasses selected from the group consisting of sugar, sugar cane, sugar cane waste, community waste, seaweed or other marine waste, municipal waste, fish, fish waste, shellfish, shellfish waste, sewage, aquatic waste, agricultural waste, horticultural waste, animal husbandry waste, food production waste, industrial waste, and forest waste. 16. The method of claim 1, wherein prior to said forming of said facility, said site comprises extant gypsum-based refuse and said facility is formed at least partly on top of said extant refuse.17. The method of claim 16, wherein said extant gypsum-based refuse comprises gypsum or phosphogypsum.18. The method of claim 16, wherein said gypsum-based refuse site is a gypsum stack or a site suitable for a gypsum stack.19. The method of claim 1, wherein said facility is constructed and arranged to store or process one or more types of waste from the group consisting offood production waste, industrial waste, biomass, forest waste, medical waste, hazardous waste, municipal waste, aquatic waste, marine waste, sewage, community waste, industrial waste, agricultural waste, animal husbandry waste, and food production waste. 20. The method of claim 1, wherein said facility is constructed and arranged to store or process biomass, and wherein said biomass comprises one or more biomasses selected from the group consisting ofsugar, sugar cane, sugar cane waste, community waste, seaweed or other marine waste, municipal waste, fish, fish waste, shellfish, shellfish waste, sewage, aquatic waste, agricultural waste, horticultural waste, animal husbandry waste, food production waste, industrial waste, and forest waste. 21. A facility suitable for storing or processing waste, said facility formed according to the method of claim 1.
