An abrasive article for releasable affixation to an opposed surface having engaging structures, comprising:a) a substrate having first and second major surfaces; b) abrasive means disposed on the first surface; and c) a plurality of hooking stems integrally provided on and projecting from the second surface, the hooking stems each including means for hooking the engaging structures to releasably affix the abrasive article to the opposed surface, wherein; the hooking means are oriented randomly relative to an adjacent hooking means; and the substrate and the hooking stems are made from an organic thermoplastic polymeric material selected from the group consisting of polyurethanes, polyamides, polyolefins, polyesters, and combinations thereof. 2. The abrasive article of claim 1, wherein the thermoplastic material is a polyolefin.3. The abrasive article of claim 2, wherein the abrasive article is a rotatable, abrasive-coated disc.4. The abrasive article of claim 2, wherein the abrasive means disposed on the first surface of the substrate comprises a make coat, a mineral coat and a size coat.5. The abrasive article of claim 2, wherein the substrate comprises a flexible backing.6. The abrasive article of claim 2, wherein each hooking stem has a free end that extends in a single direction along the second surface of the substrate for engagement with the engaging structures on the opposed surface, wherein the free ends of the hooking stems are randomly oriented and do not all extend in a common directional orientation along the second surface.7. The abrasive article of claim 2, wherein each hooking stem has a stem length between 001 mm. and 10 mm.8. The abrasive article of claim 2, wherein each hooking stem has a stem length between 0.13 mm. and 1.00 mm.9. The abrasive article of claim 2, wherein the stems are inclined with respect to the second surface.10. The abrasive article of claim 1, wherein the second surface and at least a portion of the hooking stems is made from a polyolefin.11. An abrasive article for releasable affixation to an opposed surface having engaging structures, comprising:a) a substrate having first and second major surface; b) abrasive means disposed on the first surface; and c) a plurality of hooking stems integrally provided on and projecting from the second surface, the hooking stems each including means for hooking the engaging structures to releasably affix the abrasive article to the opposed surface, the hooking stems having a head length between 0.05 mm and 2 mm, wherein; the hooking means are oriented randomly relative to an adjacent hooking means; and the substrate and the hooking stems are made from an organic thermoplastic polymeric material selected from the group consisting of polyurethanes, polyamides, polyolefins, polyesters, and combinations thereof. 12. The abrasive article of claim 11, wherein each hooking stem has a free end that extends in a single direction along the second surface of the substrate for engagement with the engaging structures on the opposed surface, and wherein the free ends of the hooking stems are randomly oriented and do not all extend in a common directional orientation along the second surface.13. An abrasive article for releasable affixation to an opposed surface having engaging structures, comprising:a) a substrate having first and second major surfaces; b) abrasive means disposed on the first surface; and c) a plurality of hooking stems integrally provided on and projecting from the second surface, the hooking stems each including means for hooking the engaging structures to releasably affix the abrasive article to the opposed surface, the hooking stems having an included distal end angle less than 90 degrees, wherein; the hooking means are oriented randomly relative to an adjacent hooking means; and the substrate and the hooking stems are made from an organic thermoplastic polymeric material selected from the group consisting of polyurethanes, polyamides, polyolefins, polyesters, and combinations thereof. 14. The abrasive article of claim 13, wherein the thermoplastic material is a polyolefin.15. The abrasive article of claim 14, wherein the abrasive article is a rotatable, abrasive-coated disc.16. The abrasive article of claim 14, wherein the abrasive means disposed on the first surface of the substrate comprises a make coat, a mineral coat and a size coat.17. The abrasive article of claim 14, wherein the substrate comprises a flexible backing.18. The abrasive article of claim 14, wherein each hooking stem has a free end that extends in a single direction along the second surface of the substrate for engagement with the engaging structures on the opposed surface, wherein the free ends of the hooking stems are randomly oriented and do not all extend in a common directional orientation along the second surface.19. The abrasive article of claim 14, wherein each hooking stem has a stem length between 0.01 mm. and 10 mm.20. The abrasive article of claim 14, wherein each hooking stem has a stem length between 0.13 mm. and 1.00 mm.21. The abrasive article of claim 14, wherein the stems are inclined with respect to the second surface.22. The abrasive article of claim 13, wherein the second surface and at least a portion of the hooking sterns is made from a polyolefin.
