A locking device, comprising a housing having a first opening, a second opening and an outlet, the first opening communicating with the outlet via a channel in the housing;a J or U shaped insertable member having first and second arms which are rigidly joined to one another, the first arm being adapted to be slidingly insertable through the first opening and into the channel and the second arm being simultaneously slidingly insertable through the second opening; a locking mechanism biased to resist withdrawal of the first arm through the first opening, wherein the locking mechanism is lockably engageable with the first arm upon insertion of the insertable member into the housing and, when so lockably engaged, removable therefrom by severing of the first arm at a position between the locking mechanism and the second arm followed by deflection of the locking mechanism against its bias by removal of the severed end of the first arm through the outlet; and a secondary locking member adapted to lockably engage with the first arm when an applied shock displaces the locking mechanism out of engagement with the first arm. 2. A device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the locking mechanism is a locking member located in the housing, the locking member being biased towards engagement with an indent or hole in the first arm so that the locking member is lockably engageable with the first arm upon insertion of the insertable member into the housing.3. A locking device as claimed in claim 2, wherein a step inside the housing is in abutment with the locking mechanism so as to prevent the locking mechanism becoming disengaged from the first arm on application of a shock, and wherein further insertion of the insertable member into the housing moves the locking mechanism out of abutment with the step, whereupon disengagement of the locking mechanism from the first arm becomes possible.4. A locking device as claimed in claim 2, further including a disposable locking element adapted to engage with the insertable member and/or the housing when the insertable member is in locking engagement with the locking mechanism, whereupon breakage of part of the disposable locking element permits disengagement thereof from the insertable member and/or from the housing.5. A locking device as claimed in claim 4, in which the disposable locking element is adapted to lockably engage with the insertable member and/or the housing, whereby withdrawal of the insertable member from the housing is prevented even when the locking mechanism is disengaged from the first arm.6. A locking device as claimed in claim 4, in which the disposable locking element is of plastics material and includes a head part and a plug part, the plug part being resiliently deformable so as to permit engagement with but resist disengagement from the housing and/or the insertable member, and the head part including a tear line whereby manual manipulation of the head part will permit separation thereof from the plug part with resultant disengagement from the housing and/or insertable member.
