A file cabinet providing access to files from substantially all sides, and having one or more rotatable tiers, each tier containing a plurality of file containers. Each tier includes a central carrousel having a plurality of radially extending arms. Mounted to the outer terminus of each arm is a file support assembly, each configured to rotate about a vertical axis between a retracted position and an extended position. Each file support assembly is adapted to suspend a file container thereon to provide detachable storage. The detachable file containers each include a box having an upper frame which suspends the container from the file support assemblies. A top may be provided to close each container in a secure manner to protect the container's contents.

A file cabinet, comprising in combination:a base; a central carrousel assembly rotatably coupled to said base; and a plurality of file support assemblies pivotally coupled to said central carrousel assembly and rotatable between an extended position and a closed position relative to said central carrousel assembly, each of said plurality of file support assemblies include a pivot tube having a first end and a second end: a hanger arm intermediate said first and second end of said pivot tube and extending perpendicular thereto; and a bearing assembly in said first and second ends of said pivot tube. 2. The file cabinet as defined in claim 1, further including a container assembly detachably coupled to at least one of said plurality of file support assemblies.3. The file cabinet as defined in claim 2, wherein said container assembly includes a rim configured to be detachably suspended on one of said file support assemblies.4. The file cabinet as defined in claim 3, wherein said rim includes:a plurality of walls interconnected together to form at least one recess configured to receive a portion of at least one of said plurality of said file support assemblies therein and suspend said container assembly. 5. The file cabinet as defined in claim 3, wherein said container assembly includes a cover depending from said rim to conceal an interior of said container assembly.6. The file cabinet as defined in claim 3, wherein said container assembly includes:a box assembly having a plurality of side panels; a corner member interconnecting adjacent ones of said plurality of side panels; and a frame attached to an open end of said box assembly. 7. The file cabinet as defined in claim 1, wherein said base includes:a hub; and at least one support radially extending from said hub. 8. The file cabinet as defined in claim 1, wherein said central carrousel assembly includes:an upper and a lower spider; a plurality of connectors interconnecting said upper and lower spiders together in spaced apart relationship; and at least one bearing member for pivotally coupling said base to said lower spider. 9. The file cabinet as defined in claim 1, wherein said central carrousel assembly includes:a plurality of spaced apart spider members; and bearing members between a lower one of said plurality of spaced apart spider members and said base. 10. The file cabinet as defined in claim 9, further including at least one axial load member interconnecting said plurality of spaced apart spider members.11. The file cabinet as defined in claim 1, wherein each of said plurality of file support assemblies includes a mechanism for preventing said pivot tube from rotating freely between said extended position and said closed position.12. A carrousel file cabinet, comprising in combination:a base a carrousel assembly journaled with said base, said carrousel assembly including a bearing member having one portion attached to said base and a second portion attached to said carrousel assembly to permit said carrousel assembly to rotate about an axis; a plurality of file support assemblies coupled to said carrousel assembly, each, rotatable between a stowed position and an extended position about an axis substantially parallel to said carrousel assembly and including a file support member having first and second ends; a bearing member disposed in each of said first and second ends, each bearing member interconnected to said carrousel assembly, a hanger arm extending from said file support member; and a member internal said file support member and cooperating with an end of said hanger arm to control a rotation angle of said hanger arm and said support member between said stowed position and said extended position; and a file container adapted to be detachably suspended from any one of said plurality of file support assemblies. 13. The carrousel file cabinet as defined in claim 12, wherein said base includes a hub having at least one radially extending member for providing vertical support for the carrousel file cabinet.14. The carrousel file cabinet as defined in claim 12, wherein said carrousel assembly includes:a plurality of spiders spaced from each other; a plurality of members interconnecting said plurality of spiders in spaced registered alignment; and a bearing member interconnecting a lower one of said plurality of spiders to said base such that said carrousel assembly rotates about an axis defined by said bearing member. 15. The carrousel file cabinet as defined in claim 12, wherein each of said plurality of file support assemblies includes:at least one pivot tube having a first and a second end; a bearing member disposed in said first end and said second end of said pivot tube; a hanger arm extending from said at least one pivot tube; and a member cooperating with said hanger arm to control a rotation angle of each file support assembly between said stowed position and said extended position. 16. The carrousel file cabinet as defined in claim 12, further comprising a plurality of carrousel assemblies stacked upon one another and coupled to said base.17. The carrousel file cabinet as defined in claim 12, wherein said file container includes:a rim adapted to be detachably coupled to one of said plurality of file support assemblies; a box assembly depending from said rim; and a top assembly attached to an upper surface of said rim. 18. A carrousel file cabinet, comprising in combination:a base; a carrousel assembly journaled with said base; a plurality of file support assemblies coupled to said carrousel assembly, each rotatable between a stowed position and an extended position about an axis substantially parallel to said carrousel assembly; and a file container adapted to be detachably suspended from any one of said plurality of file support assemblies, said file container including a rim formed from a plurality of contoured walls; a plurality of legs pivotally coupled to said rim and movable between an extended position and a position retracted toward an interior of said container rim; and a bottom panel slidably received along said plurality of legs and configured to nest against a lower edge of said rim. 19. The carrousel file cabinet as defined in claim 18, wherein said base includes a hub having at least one radially extending member for providing vertical support for the carrousel file cabinet.20. The carrousel file cabinet as defined in claim 18, wherein said carrousel assembly includes:a plurality of spiders spaced from each other; a plurality of members interconnecting said plurality of spiders in spaced registered alignment; and a bearing member interconnecting a lower one of said plurality of spiders to said base such that said carrousel assembly rotates about an axis defined by said bearing member. 21. The carrousel file cabinet as defined in claim 18, wherein each of said plurality of file support assemblies includes:at least one pivot tube having a first and a second end; a bearing member disposed in said first end and said second end of said pivot tube; a hanger arm extending from said at least one pivot tube; and a member cooperating with said hanger arm to control a rotation angle of each file support assembly between said stowed position and said extended position. 22. The carrousel file cabinet as defined in claim 18, further comprising a plurality of carrousel assemblies stacked upon one another and coupled to said base.23. The carrousel file cabinet as defined in claim 18, wherein said file container includes:a rim adapted to be detachably coupled to one of said plurality of file support assemblies; a box assembly depending from said rim; and a top assembly attached to an upper surface of said rim. 24. A carrousel file cabinet, comprising in combination:a base; a carrousel assembly journaled with said base; a plurality of file support assemblies coupled to said carrousel assembly, each rotatable between a stowed position and an extended position about an axis substantially parallel to said carrousel assembly; a file container adapted to be detachably suspended from any one of said plurality of file support assemblies, said file container including a bottom panel interconnected about its peripheral edge to a plurality of side wall panels; a plurality of corner members, each interconnecting adjacent ones of said plurality of side wall panels together; and a lid assembly attached to an upper edge of each of said plurality of side wall panels for closing said container, said lid having at least one channel for receiving said file hanger assembly therein and suspend said file container thereon. 25. The carrousel file cabinet as claim 24, wherein said base includes a hub having at least one radially extending member for providing vertical support for the carrousel file cabinet.26. The carrousel file cabinet as defined in claim 24, wherein said carrousel assembly includes:a plurality of spiders spaced from each other; a plurality of members interconnecting said plurality of spiders in spaced registered alignment; and a bearing member interconnecting a lower one of said plurality of spiders to said base such that said carrousel assembly rotates about an axis defined by said bearing member. 27. The carrousel file cabinet as defined in claim 24, wherein each of said plurality of file support assemblies includes:at least one pivot tube having a first and a second end; a bearing member disposed in said first end and said second end of said pivot tube; a hanger arm extending from said at least one pivot tube; and a member cooperating with said hanger arm to control a rotation angle of each file support assembly between said stowed position and said extended position. 28. The carrousel file cabinet as defined in claim 24, further comprising a plurality of carrousel assemblies stacked upon one another and coupled to said base.29. The carrousel file cabinet as defined in claim 24, wherein said file container includes:a rim adapted to be detachably coupled to one of said plurality of file support assemblies; a box assembly depending from said rim; and a top assembly attached to an upper surface of said rim. 30. A method for manufacturing a carrousel file assembly, comprising the steps of:providing a base; attaching a bearing member to said base; attaching a carrousel assembly to said bearing member such that said carrousel assembly rotates with respect to said base; interconnecting a plurality of file support assemblies to said carrousel assembly, each configured to pivot between a stowed position proximate a center of said carrousel assembly and an extended position away from said center of said carrousel assembly and to support at least one detachable container. 31. A carrousel file cabinet, comprising in combination:a base; a carrousel assembly journaled with said base; a plurality of file support assemblies coupled to said carrousel assembly, each rotatable between a stowed position and an extended position, each of said plurality of file support assemblies including a file support member having a first and a second end; a bearing member disposed in each of said first and said second ends, each bearing member interconnected to said carrousel assembly; a hanger arm extending from said file support member, and a member internal said file support member and cooperating with an end of said hanger arm to control a rotation angle of said hanger arm between said stowed position and said extended position; and a bearing member having one portion attached to said base and a second portion attached to said carrousel assembly to permit said carrousel assembly to rotate about an axis.
