The bolt assembly with locking system of claim 1 and wherein said cam assembly comprises a pair of cam pins extending through said bolt slide in a position to engage and cause rotation of said locking member. 3. The bolt assembly with locking system of claim 2 and wherein said at least one helical slot is engaged by at least one of said cam pins so as to cause the rotation of said locking member as said bolt is moved with respect to said bolt slide. 4. The bolt assembly with locking system of claim 1 and further comprising an extractor mounted to a forward face of said bolt head for engaging and extracting a round of ammunition from the firearm after firing. 5. The bolt assembly with locking system of claim 1 and wherein said cam assembly comprises at least one cam pin adapted to engage and urge said locking member to rotate as said bolt slide is moved longitudinally with respect to said locking member. 6. In a firearm having a barrel, a chamber within the barrel and a fire control for tiring a round of ammunition, the improvement therein comprising: a bolt assembly comprising a bolt slide defining a passage therethrough; a locking member including a body portion received within said bolt slide passage, a locking ring, and at least one helical slot formed therein; and a bolt extending through said locking member, said bolt having a body with a longitudinal slot formed therein, and a bolt head mounted to one end of said body; at least one cam member mounted along said passage of said bolt slide in a position to engage and cause rotation of said locking member with respect to said bolt head; and an extractor mounted to said bolt head for engaging and extracting the round of ammunition from the chamber after firing; wherein upon firing, as said bolt slide is moved, said at least one cam member engages and causes rotation of said locking member while said bolt head and extractor are maintained substantially fixed against rotation, and wherein said at least one cam member engages said longitudinal slot of said bolt and said helical slot of said locking member to cause rotation of said locking ring, and wherein said bolt slide moves longitudinally with respect to said bolt and said locking member. 7. The bolt assembly with locking system of claim 6 and wherein said cam member comprises at least one cam pin adapted to engage and urge said locking member to rotate as said bolt slide is moved longitudinally with respect to said locking member. 8. The bolt assembly with locking system of claim 7 and wherein said cam member comprises a pair of cam pins extending through said bolt slide in a position to engage and cause rotation of said locking member. 9. The bolt assembly with locking system of claim 8 and wherein said at least one helical slot is engaged by at least one of said cam pins so as to cause the rotation of said locking member as said bolt is moved with respect to said bolt slide. 10. The firearm of claim 6 and further comprising an action sleeve assembly carrying said bolt assembly. 11. The firearm of claim 6 and wherein said extractor is pivotally mounted to a forward face of said bolt head. 12. The firearm of claim 11 and further comprising a spring for biasing said extractor toward an engaging alignment. 13. In a firearm having a barrel, a chamber within the barrel, a fire control for firing ammunition, and a bolt assembly with locking assembly, said bolt assembly with locking assembly comprising: a bolt slide having a bolt slide passage; a locking member having a body portion received within said bolt slide passage, a locking ring, and at least one locking member slot; a bolt extending through said locking member, said bolt having a bolt head, a bolt slot, and a bolt face adjacent to a rear of the chamber; at least one cam member mounted along said bolt slide passage and engaging said locking member slot; and an extractor mounted to said bolt for extracting ammunition, wherein said bolt slide moves longitudinally upon firing, and as said bolt slide moves, said at least one cam member rotates said locking member with respect to said bolt and with respect to said bolt slide. 14. The firearm of claim 13 and wherein upon firing, said bolt head is maintained substantially fixed against rotation, and wherein said locking ring is disposed between said bolt head and said bolt slide. 15. The firearm of claim 14 and wherein said at least one locking member slot is helical. 16. The firearm of claim 14 and wherein upon firing, said at least one cam member engages said bolt slot and said helical locking member slot to cause the rotation of said locking member, and said bolt slide moves longitudinally with respect to said bolt and said locking member. 17. In a firearm having a barrel, a chamber within the barrel, a fire control for firing ammunition, and a bolt assembly with locking assembly, said bolt assembly with locking assembly comprising: a bolt slide having a bolt slide passage; a locking member having a body portion received within said bolt slide passage and a locking projection, said body portion of said locking member being longitudinally translatable and rotatable within said bolt slide passage; a bolt extending through said locking member and mounted longitudinally translatable with respect to said bolt slide, said bolt having a bolt head disposed adjacent to the chamber; and at least one cam member constructed and arranged to engage said locking member, said at least one cam member rotating said locking member with respect to said bolt head and with respect to said bolt slide during firing of said firearm. 18.
