A desktop electronic device translates on a desktop from a first position to a second position through use of at least one mobility assembly. The mobility assembly(s) may be integral with the desktop electronic device, connected to the desktop electronic device, or integral with a platform that supports the desktop electronic device. The mobility assembly(s) include at least one primary revolving element and optionally includes at least one secondary revolving element in contact therewith. The primary and secondary revolving elements may be spherically or cylindrically shaped in any combination. A spherical primary revolving element allows the desktop electronic device to translate linearly or non-linearly. Brakes or disengaging mechanisms may be combined with the desktop electronic device, mobility assembly(s), or platform to resist or prevent movement of the desktop electronic device.

An apparatus for providing mobility to a desktop electronic device, said apparatus comprising: a member including at least one mobility assembly, the at least one mobility assembly including at least one revolving element configured to provide mobility for a desktop electronic device to translate from a first position to a second position on a desktop; and at least one resistance element coupled to said member and positionally alterable with respect to said member, said at least one resistance element being selectably contacted with the desktop for resisting movement of said member, wherein the member is a base of the desktop electronic device. 2. The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the member defines at least one cavity, the at least one revolving element being located in the cavity. 3. An apparatus for providing mobility to a desktop electronic device, said apparatus comprising: a member including at least one mobility assembly, the at least one mobility assembly including at least one revolving element, said at least one mobility assembly configured to provide mobility for a desktop electronic device to translate from a first position to a second position on a desktop; and at least one engaging/disengaging element coupled to said member and (i) while in a first state, to provide mobility for the desktop electronic device and (ii) while in a second state, (a) to cause the at least one revolving element to not be in contact with the desktop or (b) to allow the at least one revolving element to be in contact with the desktop but not support weight of the desktop electronic device, wherein the member is a base of the desktop electronic device. 4. An apparatus for providing desktop mobility to a desktop electronic device, said apparatus comprising: a platform having a top surface adapted to support a desktop electronic device; at least one mobility assembly coupled to the platform and including at least one revolving element operable to support said platform on the desktop and to translate the platform from a first position to a second position on the desktop in linear and non-linear directions; and means for resisting movement of the platform, wherein said means for resisting movement includes a resisting element that contacts the at least one revolving element. 5. The apparatus according to claim 4, wherein the top surface is essentially planar. 6. The apparatus according to claim 4, wherein the top surface includes a structure to receive a base of the desktop electronic device. 7. The apparatus according to claim 4, wherein the top surface includes a structure to receive a housing of the desktop electronic device. 8. The apparatus according to claim 4, wherein said at least one revolving element is cylindrical. 9. The apparatus according to claim 8, wherein the at least one revolving element defines a hollow cylinder with an opening extending through the at least one revolving element and is connected to the platform by a pin, attached at each end to the platform and passing through the opening in the revolving element. 10. The apparatus according to claim 4, wherein said at least one mobility assembly is defined by a cavity in the bottom surface of said platform and said at least one revolving element is disposed therein. 11. The apparatus according to claim 4, wherein the at least one revolving element is spherical. 12. The apparatus according to claim 4, wherein the at least one revolving element includes at least one spherical and at least one cylindrical revolving element. 13. The apparatus according to claim 4, wherein the at least one mobility includes multiple spherical revolving elements. 14. The apparatus according to claim 4, wherein said means for resisting movement includes a resisting element that contacts the desktop. 15. The apparatus according to claim 4, further including an engaging or disengaging mechanism coupled to said platform for selectably engaging or disengaging the at least one revolving element with the desktop. 16. An apparatus for providing mobility to a desktop electronic device, said apparatus comprising: a member including at least one mobility assembly, the at least one mobility assembly including at least one revolving element configured to provide mobility for a desktop electronic device to translate from a first position to a second position on a desktop; and at least one resistance element coupled to said member and positionally alterable with respect to said member, said at least one resistance element being selectably contacted with the desktop for resisting movement of said member, wherein the member is a housing of the desktop electronic device. 17. The apparatus according to claim 16, wherein the member defines at least one cavity, the at least one revolving element being located in the cavity. 18. An apparatus for providing mobility to a desktop electronic device, said apparatus comprising: a member including at least one mobility assembly, the at least one mobility assembly including at least one revolving element, said at least one mobility assembly configured to provide mobility for a desktop electronic device to translate from a first position to a second position on a desktop; and at least one engaging/disengaging element coupled to said member and (i) while in a first state, to provide mobility for the desktop electronic device and (ii) while in a second state, (a) to cause the at least one revolving element to not be in contact with the desktop or (b) to allow the at least one revolving element to be in contact with the desktop but not support weight of the desktop electronic device, wherein the member is a housing of the desktop electronic device. 19. An apparatus for providing desktop mobility to a desktop electronic device, said apparatus comprising: a platform having a top surface adapted to support a desktop electronic device; and at least one mobility assembly coupled to the platform and including at least one revolving element operable to support said platform on the desktop and to translate the platform from a first position to a second position on the desktop in linear and non-linear directions, wherein said at least one revolving element is cylindrical and defines a hollow cylinder, said at least one revolving element being connected to the platform by a pin, attached at each end to the platform and passing through the opening in the revolving element.
