A communication system to which can be applied a site diversity procedure in which different transmitting stations are not synchronized with one another, and signals from plural transmitting stations are received simultaneously. The timing shift produced when signals from plural transmitting stations are received simultaneously is received by a receiving side (S101). When the timing shift has exceeded an allowable range, the communication with the transmitting station is transiently halted (S102 to S106) and, after adjusting the timing on the transmitting side, communication is re-started (S107 to S112) so that the signal reception timings from different base stations will be within an allowable range at all times.
