The cable management devices having attachments that correspond to the shaped apertures to secure the cable management devices to the panel at selected vertical and horizontal locations. What is claimed is: 1. A telecommunications cable management system, comprising: (a) at least a first telecommunications rack, the rack including a frame having first and second side columns, the first side column defining a first end of the rack, the second side column defining a second end of the rack opposite the first end, the rack having a top and a bottom; (b) fiber optic telecommunications equipment mounted to the first telecommunications rack between the first side column and the second side column of the frame; (c) a cable management assembly coupled to one of the first and second ends of the rack, the cable management assembly including a first interface plane having a shaped-aperture pattern; and (d) a plurality of cable management devices having integral attachments; the integral attachments being configured to correspond to the shaped-aperture pattern and detachably secure the cable management devices to the panel at selected vertical and horizontal locations, the cable management devices including cable spools having a curved construction that limits the bend radius of cables interconnected to the fiber optic telecommunications equipment; (e) wherein the first interface plane of the cable management assembly has a height and a width, the height extending substantially from the top of the rack to the bottom of the rack, the width being between about 5 and 12 inches. 2. The telecommunications cable management system of claim 1, further including a second telecommunications rack, the interface plane of the cable management assembly being coupled to an end of the second rack. 3. The telecommunications cable management system of claim 1, wherein the cable management assembly has a channel-shaped configuration, the channel-shaped configuration including the first interface plane, a second interface plane, and a third interface plane, each of the second and third interface planes having a shaped-aperture pattern corresponding to the integral attachments of the cable management devices. 4. The telecommunications cable management system of claim 1, wherein the fiber optic telecommunications equipment is mounted at the bottom of the telecommunications rack, and wherein one of the cable management devices is mounted at a bottom of the panel adjacent to the fiber optic telecommunications equipment mounted at the bottom of the telecommunications rack. 5. A method of assembling a cable management system, the method of assembling comprising: (a) providing a panel mounted to a telecommunications rack, the rack including fiber optic telecommunications equipment mounted thereto, the rack having a top and a bottom, the panel including a first interface portion having a front side and a back side, and a plurality of shaped apertures extending between the front side and the back side of the interface portion, the shaped apertures being located at vertical locations and horizontal locations along the panel, the panel having a height and a width, the height extending substantially from the top of the telecommunications rack to the bottom of the telecommunications rack, the width of the panel being between 2 and 18 inches; (b) providing a plurality of cable management devices, each of the cable management devices having at least one protrusion sized and configured for insertion into the shape apertures, the cable management devices including cable spools having a curved surface that limits the bend radius of cables; (c) selecting at least one of the cable management devices; (d) selecting a placement coordinate on the panel, including selecting a vertical location and a horizontal location along the panel; (e) inserting the at least one protrusion of the selected cable management device through at least one shaped aperture, corresponding to the selected placement coordinate, from the front side of the panel toward the back side of the panel; and (f) securing the selected cable management device to the panel at the selected placement coordinate by moving the at least one protrusion of the cable management device to a secured position. 6. The method of claim 5, further including selecting more than one cable management device from the plurality of cable management devices, selecting a corresponding number of placement coordinates, and securing the selected cable management devices to the panel at the selected coordinates. 7. The method of claim 6, wherein the plurality of cable management devices includes different types of cable management devices. 8. The method of claim 5, wherein the step of selecting the placement coordinate on the panel includes selecting a placement coordinate located adjacent to fiber optic telecommunications equipment mounted at the bottom of the telecommunications rack. 9. A telecommunications cable management system, comprising: (a) first and second telecommunication structures defining a gap therebetween, each of the first telecommunication structure and the second telecommunication structure including fiber optic telecommunications equipment mounted thereto; (b) a panel having a width of between 5 and 12 inches, the panel being mounted to each of the first and second telecommunication structures such that the panel width extends across the gap defined between the first and second telecommunication structures, the panel including an interface portion and a plurality of shaped apertures formed in the interface portion, the shaped apertures being arranged in an array of columns and rows; and (c) a plurality of cable management devices for retaining excess cabling, the devices being configured to prevent cable damage, each of the devices having attachments corresponding to the shaped apertures, each of the cable management devices being configured to secure to the panel at randomly selected vertical and horizontal locations. 10. The cable management system of claim 9, wherein the shaped apertures include apertures having a square shape. 11. The cable management system of claim 10, wherein the attachments of the devices are inserted within respective shaped apertures in an axial direction from a front side of the interface portion toward a back side of the interface portion. 12. The cable management system of claim 11, wherein the devices are secured to the panel by first inserting the attachments through the respective shaped apertures, and then moving the device such that the attachments engage an edge of the shaped aperture to prevent movement of the device in the axial direction. 13. The cable management system of claim 10, wherein the attachments of the cable management devices include first and second hook attachments configured to engage the square-shaped apertures. 14. The cable management system of claim 13, wherein the first and second hook attachments are vertically aligned relative to one another when the device is secured to the panel. 15. The cable management system of claim 9, wherein the devices are secured to the panel by first inserting the attachments through the respective shaped apertures, and then moving the device such that the attachments engage an edge of the shaped aperture to prevent movement of the device in the axial direction. 16. The cable management system of claim 15, wherein the devices are secured to the panel by moving the devices in a downward direction to engage the edge of the shaped apertures. 17. The cable management system of claim 9, wherein each of the first and second telecommunication structures includes a frame having opposite side columns, the panel being mounted to one of the side columns of each of the frames of the first and second telecommunication structures. 18. The cable management system of claim 17, wherein the fiber optic telecommunications equipment includes fiber termination panels mounted between the opposite side columns of the frame of each of the first and second telecommunication structures. 19. The cable management system of claim 9, wherein the cable management devices include a spool having a curved construction to prevent cable damage. 20. The cable management system of claim 9, wherein the cable management devices include first and second spools vertically aligned above one another. 21. The cable management system of claim 9, wherein the attachments of each of the devices couples to only two of the shaped apertures of the plurality of shaped apertures. 22. The cable management system of claim 21, wherein the two shaped apertures are located within a single column of the array of columns and rows. 23. The cable management system of claim 9, wherein the telecommunication structures include telecommunication racks. 24. The cable management system of claim 23, wherein the panel has a height extending substantially from the tops of the telecommunication racks to the bottoms of the telecommunication racks. 25. The cable management system of claim 9, wherein the panel further includes flanges oriented generally perpendicular relative to the interface portion, the flanges defining holes for mounting the panel to each of the first and second telecommunications structures. 26. The cable management system of claim 9, wherein at least one of the telecommunication structures having fiber optic telecommunications equipment mounted at a bottom of the telecommunication structure, and wherein one of the cable management devices is mounted at a bottom of the panel adjacent to the fiber optic telecommunications equipment mounted at the bottom of the at least one telecommunication structure. 27. A telecommunications cable management system, comprising: (a) a telecommunication structure having a top and a bottom, the telecommunications structure having fiber optic telecommunications equipment mounted at the bottom of the telecommunications structure; (b) a panel mounted to the telecommunication structure, the panel including a first interface portion having a front side and a back side, and a plurality of discrete openings extending between the front side and the back side of the first interface portion, the discrete openings being arranged in an array of columns and rows, the panel having a height and a width, the height extending substantially from the top of the telecommunication structure to the bottom of the telecommunications structure, the width being between 2 and 18 inches; and (c) a cable spool detachably secured to the panel at a selected vertical and horizontal location, the selected location being located along side the fiber optic telecommunications equipment mounted at the bottom of the telecommunications structure, the cable management device including at least one square hook attachment sized and configured for insertion through one of the discrete openings of the interface portion. 28. The cable management system of claim 27, wherein the discrete openings include openings having a square shape. 29. The cable management system of claim 28, wherein the square hook attachment of the device is inserted within respective discrete opening in an axial direction from the front side of the interface portion toward the back side of the interface portion. 30. The cable management system of claim 29, wherein the device is secured to the panel by first inserting the square hook attachment through the respective discrete opening, and then moving the device such that the attachment engages an edge of the discrete opening to prevent movement of the device in the axial direction. 31. The cable management system of claim 30, wherein the device is secured to the panel by moving the device in a downward direction to engage the edge of the discrete opening. 32. The cable management system of claim 28, wherein the cable management device includes first and second square hook attachments configured to engage the square-shaped openings. 33. The cable management system of claim 32, wherein the first and second square hook attachments are vertically aligned relative to one another when the device is secured to the panel. 34. The cable management system of claim 32, wherein the first and second square hook attachments couple to two discrete openings located within a single column of the array of columns and rows. 35. The cable management system of claim 27, wherein the telecommunication structure includes a frame having opposite side columns, the panel being mounted to one of the side columns of the frame. 36. The cable management system of claim 35, wherein the fiber optic telecommunications equipment includes fiber termination panels mounted between the opposite side columns of the frame of the telecommunication structure. 37. The cable management system of claim 27, wherein the telecommunication structure includes a telecommunication rack. 38. The cable management system of claim 27, further including a plurality of cable management devices, the devices including first and second spools vertically aligned above one another. 39. The cable management system of claim 27, wherein the panel further includes flanges oriented generally perpendicular relative to the interface portion, the flanges defining holes for mounting the panel to the telecommunication structure.
