The mirror subassembly for an exterior vehicle mirror assembly for a vehicle of claim 6, wherein: the circuit board is located between the deviator and the light source. 8. The mirror subassembly for an exterior vehicle mirror assembly for a vehicle of claim 7, wherein: the deviator includes the diffuser. 9. The mirror subassembly for an exterior vehicle mirror assembly for a vehicle comprising: a mirror element having a portion allowing light to pass therethrough; a light source emitting light directed at the portion; a diffuser for diffusing light directed at the portion of the mirror element; wherein the light source emits light along an emitting optical axis; a deviator for altering the light such that a deviated optical axis of the light is not along the emitting optical axis; and a circuit board located adjacent a rear of the mirror element; wherein the circuit board includes a region allowing light from the light source to pass therethrough. 10. The mirror subassembly for an exterior vehicle mirror assembly for a vehicle of claim 9, wherein: the region comprises an aperture in the circuit board. 11. The mirror subassembly for an exterior vehicle mirror assembly for a vehicle of claim 9, wherein: the region is transparent. 12. The mirror subassembly for an exterior vehicle mirror assembly for a vehicle comprising: a mirror element having a portion allowing light to pass therethrough; a light source emitting light directed at the portion; a diffuser for diffusing light directed at the portion of the mirror element; wherein the light source emits light along an emitting optical axis; a deviator for altering the light such that a deviated optical axis of the light is not along the emitting optical axis; and a circuit board located adjacent a rear of the mirror element; wherein the circuit board is located between the deviator and the light source. 13. The mirror subassembly for an exterior vehicle mirror assembly for a vehicle of claim 5, wherein: the deviator and the circuit board are integral. 14. The mirror subassembly for an exterior vehicle mirror assembly for a vehicle comprising: a mirror element having a portion allowing light to pass therethrough; a light source emitting light directed at the portion; a diffuser for diffusing light directed at the portion of the mirror element; wherein the light source emits light along an emitting optical axis; a deviator for altering the light such that a deviated optical axis of the light is not along the emitting optical axis; and a circuit board located adjacent a rear of ihe mirror element; wherein the deviator is located between the light source and the circuit board. 15. The mirror subassembly for an exterior vehicle mirror assembly for a vehicle of claim 14, wherein: the deviator includes the diffuser. 16. The mirror subassembly for an exterior vehicle mirror assembly for a vehicle of claim 14, wherein: the circuit board includes a region allowing light from the light source to pass therethrough. 17. The mirror subassembly for an exterior vehicle mirror assembly for a vehicle of claim 16, wherein: the region comprises an aperture in the circuit board. 18. A mirror subassembly for an exterior vehicle mirror for a vehicle comprising: a mirror element having a portion allowing light to pass therethrough; a light source emitting light directed at the portion; a diffuser for diffusing light directed at the portion of the mirror element; and a circuit board located adjacent a rear of the mirror element; wherein the circuit board located between the diffuser and the light source. 20. The mirror subassembly for an exterior vehicle mirror for a vehicle of claim 19, wherein the circuit board includes a region allowing light from the light source to pass therethrough. 21. The mirror subassembly for an exterior vehicle mirror assembly for a vehicle of claim 20, wherein: the region comprises an aperture in the circuit board. 22. The mirror subassembly for an exterior vehicle mirror assembly for a vehicle of claim 20, wherein: the region is transparent. 23. A mirror subassembly for an exterior vehicle mirror for a vehicle comprising: a mirror element having a portion allowing light to pass therethrough; a light source emitting light directed at the portion; a diffuser for diffusing light directed at the portion of the mirror element; and a circuit board located adjacent a rear of the mirror element; wherein the diffuser is located between the light source and the circuit board. 24. A mirror subassembly for an exterior vehicle mirror for a vehicle comprising: a mirror element having a portion allowing light to pass therethrough; a light source emitting light directed at the portion; a diffuser for diffusing light directed at the portion of the mirror element; and a circuit board located adjacent a rear of the mirror element; wherein the circuit board includes a region allowing light from the light source to pass therethrough. 25. The mirror subassembly for an exterior vehicle mirror assembly for a vehicle of claim 24, wherein: the region comprises an aperture in the circuit board. 26. The mirror subassembly for an exterior vehicle mirror assembly for a vehicle of claim 24, wherein: the region is transparent. 27. A mirror subassembly for an exterior vehicle mirror for a vehicle comprising: a mirror element having a portion allowing light to pass therethrough; a light source emitting light directed at the portion; a diffuser for diffusing light directed at the portion of the mirror element; and a circuit board located adjacent a rear of the mirror element; wherein the circuit board includes a heater for heating the mirror element. 28. The mirror subassembly for an exterior vehicle mirror assembly for a vehicle of claim 27, wherein: the heater comprises tracings printed on the circuit board. 29. The mirror subassembly for an exterior vehicle mirror assembly for a vehicle of claim 27, wherein: the diffuser is spaced from the heater. 30. An apparatus for an exterior vehicle mirror housing for a vehicle comprising: a mirror subassembly for placement within the housing, the mirror subassembly including a mirror element, a light source and a diffuser having a diffusing surface; the mirror element having a portion allowing light to pass therethrough; the light source emitting light, the light passing through said diffusing surface and being directed at the portion; and the diffuser for diffusing light directed at the portion of the mirror element; wherein the mirror element comprises an electrochromic mirror subassembly including a front glass element and a rear glass element, with electrochromic material located between the front glass element and the rear glass element; and wherein the light source emits light along an emitting optical axis; and a deviator for altering the light such that a deviated optical axis of the light is not along the emitting optical axis. 31. The apparatus for an exterior vehicle mirror housing for a vehicle of claim 30, wherein: the deviator comprises a film. 32. The apparatus for an exterior vehicle mirror housing for a vehicle of claim 30, wherein: the deviator includes the diffuser. 33. The apparatus for an exterior vehicle mirror housing for a vehicle of claim 30, wherein: the diffuser is located between the light source and the mirror element. 34.
