Apparatuses and methods for joining structural members. In one embodiment, an apparatus for joining a first member to a second member includes a first part and a second part configured to be engaged with and bonded to the first part. In one aspect of this embodiment, the first part includes a first surface facing a first direction, a second surface facing a second direction different than the first direction, a first recess at least proximate to the first surface, and a second recess at least proximate to the second surface. In another aspect of this embodiment, the second part includes a third surface facing a third direction, a fourth surface facing a fourth direction different than the third direction, a first protuberance at least proximate to the third surface, and a second protuberance at least proximate to the fourth surface. In yet another aspect of this embodiment, the first protuberance is configured to be received by the first recess, and the second protuberance is configured to be received by the second recess, when the second part is engaged with the first part to join the structural members.

We claim: 1. A method for joining a first member to a second member so that the first member is positioned at an angle to the second member, the method comprising: providing a first part having a first surface facing a first direction and a second surface facing a second direction different than the first direction, the first part further having at least a first recess at least proximate to the first surface and a second recess at least proximate to the second surface, wherein the first part includes a base portion and first and second flange portions extending from the base portion, wherein the first flange portion includes the first surface and the second flange portion includes the second surface; providing a second part having a third surface facing a third direction and a fourth surface facing a fourth direction different than the third direction, the second part further having a first protuberance at least proximate to the third surface and a second protuberance at least proximate to the fourth surface, wherein the base portion of the first part includes at least a fifth surface configured for attachment to the first member, wherein the first and second surfaces are positioned at angles of from about 60 degrees to about 90 degrees relative to the fifth surface, and wherein the second part includes at least a sixth surface configured for attachment to the second member, the sixth surface being at least generally parallel to the third and fourth surfaces; applying adhesive to the fifth surface of the first part and bonding the fifth surface to a side portion of the first member; applying adhesive to the sixth surface of the second part and bonding the second part to an edge portion of the second member; applying adhesive at least proximate to the third and fourth surfaces of the second part; engaging the first protuberance of the second part with the first recess of the first part; and engaging the second protuberance of the second part with the second recess of the first part to join the first member to the second member, whereby the first member is positioned at an angle to the second member. 2. The method of claim 1, further comprising inserting at least a portion of the second part between the first and second surfaces of the first part. 3. The method of claim 1, further comprising inserting at least a portion of first part between the third and fourth surfaces of the second part. 4. The method of claim 1 further comprising: attaching the first part to the first member; and attaching the second part to the second member. 5. The method of claim 1 further comprising installing a fastener through a portion of the second part and the second member to attach the second member to the second part. 6. The method of claim 1 further comprising moving the first and second surfaces relative to each other. 7. The method of claim 1 further comprising moving the third and fourth surfaces relative to each other. 8. The method of claim 1 further comprising: spreading the first and second surfaces outwardly away from each other; and allowing the first and second surfaces to spring back toward each other to contact the adhesive applied to the third and fourth surfaces of the second part. 9. The method of claim 1 further comprising: squeezing the first and second surfaces inwardly toward each other; and allowing the first and second surfaces to spring back away from each other to contact the adhesive applied to the third and fourth surfaces of the second part. 10. A method for joining a first member to a second member, the method comprising: providing a first part having a first surface facing a first direction and a second surface facing a second direction different than the first direction, the first part further having at least a first recess at least proximate to the first surface and a second recess at least proximate to the second surface, wherein the first part includes a base portion and first and second flange portions extending from the base portion, wherein the first flange portion includes the first surface and the second flange portion includes the second surface; providing a second part having a third surface facing a third direction and a fourth surface facing a fourth direction different than the third direction, the second part further having a first protuberance at least proximate to the third surface and a second protuberance at least proximate to the fourth surface, wherein the base portion of the first part includes at least a fifth surface configured for attachment to the first member, wherein the first and second surfaces are positioned at angles of from about 60 degrees to about 90 degrees relative to the fifth surface, and wherein the second part includes at least a sixth surface configured for attachment to the second member, the sixth surface being at least generally parallel to the third and fourth surfaces; applying adhesive to the fifth surface of the first part and bonding the fifth surface to a side portion of the first member; applying adhesive to the sixth surface of the second part and bonding the second part to an edge portion of the second member; applying adhesive to the third and fourth surfaces of the second part; moving the first and second surfaces of the first part relative to each other; and allowing the first and second surfaces of the first part to spring back relative to each other to contact the adhesive applied to the third and fourth surfaces of the second part, whereby the first member is joined to the second member at an angle to the second member. 11. The method of claim 10 further comprising: engaging the first protuberance of the second part with the first recess of the first part; and engaging the second protuberance of the second part with the second recess of the first part. 12. The method of claim 10 wherein moving the first and second surfaces of the first part relative to each other includes spreading the first and second surfaces outwardly away from each other. 13. The method of claim 10 wherein moving the first and second surfaces of the first part relative to each other includes squeezing the first and second surfaces inwardly toward each other. 14. A method for joining a first member to at least a second member, the method comprising: providing a first part having a first surface facing a first direction and a second surface facing a second direction different than the first direction, the first part further having at least a first recess at least proximate to the first surface and a second recess at least proximate to the second surface, wherein the first part includes a base portion and first and second flange portions extending from the base portion, wherein the first flange portion includes the first surface and the second flange portion includes the second surface, wherein the base portion of the first part includes at least a third surface configured for attachment to the first member, wherein the first and second surfaces are positioned at angles of from about 60 degrees to about 90 degrees relative to the third surface; providing a second part having a first protuberance and a second protuberance, and wherein the second part includes at least a fourth surface configured for attachment to the second member; applying adhesive to the third surface of the first part and bonding the third surface to a side portion of the first member; applying adhesive to the fourth surface of the second part and bonding the second part to an edge portion of the second member; applying adhesive at least proximate to the first and second protuberances of the second part; engaging the first protuberance of the second part with the first recess of the first part; and engaging the second protuberance of the second part with the second recess of the first part to join the first member to the second member, whereby the first member is positioned at an angle to the second member. 15. The method of claim 14, further comprising inserting at least a portion of the second part between the first and second surfaces of the first part. 16. The method of claim 14, further comprising inserting at least a portion of first part between the third and fourth surfaces of the second part. 17. The method of claim 14 further comprising installing a fastener through a portion of the second part and the second member to attach the second member to the second part. 18. The method of claim 14 wherein applying adhesive at least proximate to the first and second protuberances of the second part includes putting adhesive on a portion of the second member. 19. The method of claim 14 further comprising moving the first and second surfaces relative to each other. 20. The method of claim 14 further comprising: spreading the first and second surfaces outwardly away from each other; and allowing the first and second surfaces to spring back toward each other to contact the adhesive applied at least proximate to the first and second protuberances.
