One aspect of the present invention relates to a method for making a boat. The boat includes a port side positioned opposite from a starboard side. The boat also includes a floor and stingers supports positioned within the hull. The method includes providing a insert having two spaced-apart elongated portions interconnected by at least two spaced-apart transverse portions that extend between the elongated portions. The elongated portions are sized and relatively positioned for one of the elongated portions to extend along the port side of the hull and the other of the elongated portions to extend along the starboard side of the hull. The method also includes positioning the insert in a chamber defined between a male mold piece and a female mold piece. The method further includes providing fibrous reinforcing material that surrounds the insert within the chamber. The fibrous reinforcing material includes portions positioned between the male mold piece and the insert, and also includes portions positioned between the female mold piece and the insert. The method further includes transferring resin into the chamber between the male and female mold pieces such that the resin envelops the fibrous reinforcing material, and curing the resin within the chamber. As the resin cures, the resin enveloped fibrous reinforcing material hardens to form the hull, the floor and the support stringers of the boat.

What is claimed is: 1. A boat, comprising: a) a hull having a length extending between a bow and a stern, the hull being made of a fiber reinforced resin construction; b) a platform connected to the hull by a seamless connection extending along a majority of the length of the hull, the platform being made of a fiber reinforced resin construction; and c) a buoyant foam insert positioned between the hull and the platform. 2. The boat of claim 1, wherein the platform defines a planar top surface having a generally horizontal orientation. 3. The boat of claim 1, further including stringer supports connected to both the hull and the platform by seamless connections. 4. The boat of claim 3, further including at least one transverse support connected to the stringer supports and the platform by a seamless connection. 5. The boat of claim 4, wherein the transverse support and the stringer supports form an internal compartment within the boat. 6. The boat of claim 3, wherein the stringer supports are made of a fiber reinforced resin construction. 7. The boat of claim 1, wherein the platform includes planar surface portions that extend from a port side to a starboard side of the hull. 8. The boat of claim 1, further including a chamber defined between the platform and the hull, the buoyant foam insert being positioned within the chamber. 9. The boat of claim 8, wherein the chamber extends longitudinally between the bow and the stern of the hull. 10. The boat of claim 1, wherein the buoyant foam insert includes a first buoyant foam insert portion and a second buoyant foam insert portion positioned between the hull and the platform. 11. The boat of claim 10, further including first and second chambers defined between the platform and the hull, the buoyant foam portions being positioned within the chambers. 12. The boat of claim 1, wherein the buoyant foam insert has a generally triangular transverse cross-section. 13. The boat of claim 10, wherein the buoyant foam insert includes a transverse portion that interconnects the first and second buoyant foam insert portions. 14. The boat of claim 1, wherein the hull has a generally V-shaped cross-section, and wherein the buoyant foam insert has side surfaces angled generally parallel to hull walls that define the V-shaped cross-section. 15. The boat of claim 1, wherein the buoyant foam insert includes a first elongated portion and a second elongated portion, the first elongated portion being positioned at a port side of the keel of the boat, the second elongated portion being positioned at a starboard side of the keel of the boat, the first and second elongated portions being generally parallel to the keel of the boat. 16. The boat of claim 15, wherein the buoyant foam insert includes transverse portions that extend across the keel of the boat between the first and second elongated portions. 17. The boat of claim 15, wherein the elongated portions each have a planar horizontal top surface. 18. The boat of claim 15, wherein the hull has hull walls that define a V-shaped cross-section, and wherein the elongated portions each have an angled side surface that is generally parallel to one of the hull walls that defines the V-shaped cross-section.
