What is claimed is: 1. An apparatus, comprising: a case having a second opening defined by walls of a first portion of the case, and a first opening defined by walls of a second portion of the case; a capacitor stack disposed in the case, the capacitor stack including at least one substantially planar capacitor electrode, the capacitor stack being sized for passage through the second opening of the case; a cover substantially conforming to the second opening and sealingly connected to the second opening; and a plate substantially conforming to the first opening, wherein the plate includes a first section and a second section, with an approximately step shaped transition between the first section and the second section, the first section sized for passage through the first opening, the second section sized such that it is substantially restricted from passing through the first opening, and wherein the plate welded to the walls of the case such that the second section is located in the case. 2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the plate does not include an aperture. 3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the walls of the ease defining the first opening have a first thickness, and the plate has a second thickness, the second thickness being approximately greater than the first thickness. 4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the case includes a feedthrough passageway, with a conductor coupled to the capacitor stack and passing at least part of the way through the feedthrough passageway, and with a seal disposed in the feedthrough passageway, the seal adapted to resist the flow of electrolyte and to insulate the coupling member from the case. 5. The apparatus of claim 4, wherein the seal includes epoxy. 6. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the plate includes an aperture. 7. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein the plate includes a plug substantially conforming to the aperture of the plate, the plug sealingly connected to the plate. 8. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein a seal connecting the plug to the plate includes a weld. 9. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising a terminal connected to the plate, wherein the terminal is in electrical connection with the case and the at least one substantially planar capacitor electrode. 10. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the terminal does not substantially pass through the plate. 11. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the terminal is arc-percussion welded to the plate. 12. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein a terminal is connected to the plate. 13. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the terminal is arc-percussion welded to the plate. 14. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the first opening has an irregular shape. 15. An apparatus, comprising: a capacitor stack including at least one substantially planar anode and at least one substantially planar cathode; a case in which the first capacitor stack is disposed, the case including a second opening sized for passage of the capacitor stack and defining a first opening; a lid sealed to the second opening; and cover means for covering the first opening and for protecting the case from arc percussion welding damage. 16. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein the case and the cover each include titanium. 17. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein the case includes a flanged portion, which is stepped out from a first portion, the flanged portion being adapted to substantially restrict passage of the cover means through the first opening of the case. 18. The apparatus of claim 17, wherein the case includes an exterior surface which is substantially coplanar with a surface of the cover means when the cover means is mated to the first opening. 19. An apparatus, comprising: a case including a first opening defined by material of the case, the material of the case defining the first opening being of a first thickness; a capacitor stack disposed in the case, the capacitor stack including at least one substantially planar capacitor electrode; a plate substantially covering the first opening, the plate coupled to the material of the case, the plate including an aperture defined by material of the plate, the material of the plate defining the aperture being of a second thickness which is greater than the first thickness; and a plug substantially covering the aperture, the plug coupled to the material of the plate defining the aperture, the plug having a third thickness which is less than the second thickness. 20. The apparatus of claim 19, wherein the plate is laser welded to the case. 21. The apparatus of claim 20, wherein the plug is laser welded to the plate.
