A shopping cart comprising: a basket including a front portion and a rear portion; and a seat assembly mounted within the rear portion of the basket and including: a base member made from a plastic material, the base member defining a unitary member including a seat portion and a side portion, the side portion defining a hole sized and shaped to releasably support a beverage cup relative to the base member; and a flap made from a plastic material and pivotally mounted to the base member to be movable between a first up position and a second down position to rest against the seat portion of the base member, wherein access to the hole in the side portion of the base member is enabled when the flap is in the second down position. 2. The shopping cart of claim 1 wherein the flap includes a pair of lateral edges and the cart further comprises a gate pivotally mounted at the rear portion of the basket adjacent to the seat assembly, the gate including a pair of leg openings, wherein the seat portion of the base member is generally aligned with the pair of leg openings and the side portion is positioned laterally relative to the pair of leg openings so that when the flap is in the second down position, the hole in the side portion of the base member is accessible laterally relative to one respective lateral edge of the flap. 3. The shopping cart of claim 2 wherein the flap is sized and shaped to cover at least a portion of both the side portion and the seat portion when the flap is in the second down position. 4. The shopping cart of claim 3 wherein the flap is sized and shaped to at least partially block the pair of leg openings when the flap is in the first up position. 5. The shopping cart of claim 1 wherein the base member comprises a ring mounted within the hole to extend generally vertically, the ring configured to releasably capture the beverage cup based on a size and shape of the ring relative to a size and shape of the beverage cup. 6. The shopping cart of claim 1 wherein the plastic material of both the base member and the flap comprises at least one of a nylon material and a high density polyethylene material. 7. A seat for a shopping cart comprising: a gate pivotally mounted to a rear portion of a shopping cart; a seat member made from a plastic material mounted to the gate of the shopping cart via a pivot mechanism to extend in a generally horizontal position to support a child within the shopping cart, the seat member defining a child seat portion and a cupholder positioned laterally of the child seat portion; and a flap pivotally movable relative to the gate and the seat member, the flap being moveable between an up position and a down position, wherein access to the cupholder of the seat member is maintained when the flap is in the down position and a child is sitting on the flap and the seat member. 8. The seat assembly of claim 7 wherein the gate comprises a pair of leg openings positioned adjacent the child seat portion and the cupholder is positioned lateral to the pair of leg openings in an orientation generally parallel to a plane through which the leg openings extend. 9. The seat assembly of claim 7 wherein the cupholder defines a hole in the seat member and a ring positioned with the hole, the ring being sized and shaped to releasably capture a side wall of a cup to support the cup relative to the seat member. 10. The seat assembly of claim 9 wherein the flap includes: a main portion configured to support the child when the child is sitting on the child seat portion of the seat member; and a side portion extending laterally from the main portion and being pivotally movable relative to the seat member independently of the main portion of the flap to selectively permit access to the cupholder when the child is sitting on the main portion of the flap and on the child seat portion of the seat member. 11. The seat assembly of claim 10 wherein the side portion of the flap includes a top surface and a bottom surface, the bottom surface including a recessed portion sized and adapted to cover and encompass the hole of the cupholder. 12. The seat assembly of claim 7 wherein the plastic material is at least one of a nylon material and a high density polyethylene material. 13. A shopping cart comprising: means for supporting articles within a rear portion of a shopping cart; and means for releasably capturing a beverage cup, the means for releasably capturing positioned on the means for supporting to vertically support the beverage cup relative to the means for supporting; and pivotally movable means for selectively permitting access, when a child is sitting on the means for releasably for supporting, to the beverage cup supported by the means for releasably capturing, wherein the means for supporting and the means for releasably capturing are made exclusively from a plastic material. 14. The shopping cart of claim 13 wherein the means for releasably capturing comprises a ring formed in the means for supporting articles. 15. The shopping cart of claim 14 wherein the means for supporting articles comprises a child seat portion and the ring is positioned laterally relative to the child seat portion at the rear portion of the cart. 16. The shopping cart of claim 15 wherein the pivotally movable means further comprises: a cover pivotally movable relative to the child seat portion between a down position to generally prevent access to the ring when a child is sitting on the child seat portion and an up position to generally allow access to the ring when the child is sitting on the child seat portion. 17. The shopping cart of claim 16 wherein the cover includes: a main portion sized and shaped to cover the child seat portion when the cover is in the down position; and a side portion extending laterally from the main portion and pivotally movable relative to the means for supporting articles independently of the main portion of the cover, the side portion configured to cover the ring when the side portion of the cover is in a down position and to provide access to the ring when the side portion of the cover is in an up position. 18. A shopping cart comprising: a basket including a front portion and a rear portion; and a seat assembly mounted within the rear portion of the basket and including: a base member made from a plastic material, the base member defining a unitary member including a seat portion and a side portion, the side portion defining a hole sized and shaped to releasably support a beverage cup relative to the base member, wherein a ring is mounted within the hole to extend generally vertically, the ring configured to releasably capture the beverage cup based on a size and shape of the ring relative to a size and shape of the beverage cup; and a flap made from a plastic material and pivotally mounted to the base member to be movable between a first up position in which access to the hole in the side portion of the base member is enabled and a second down position covering, and generally preventing access to, the hole in the side portion of the base member, wherein the flap includes a top surface and a bottom surface including a recessed portion sized and adapted to cover and encompass the ring. 19. A shopping cart comprising: a basket including a front portion and a rear portion; and a seat assembly mounted within the rear portion of the basket and including: a base member made from a plastic material, the base member defining a unitary member including a seat portion and a side portion, the side portion defining a hole sized and shaped to releasably support a beverage cup relative to the base member; and a flap made from a plastic material and pivotally mounted to the base member to be movable between a first up position in which access to the hole in the side portion of the base member is enabled and a second down position covering, and generally preventing access to, the hole in the side portion of the base member, wherein the flap includes: a main portion being sized and shaped to at least partially cover the seat portion when the flap is in the second down position; and a side portion extending laterally from the main portion and being pivotally movable relative to the base member independently of the main portion. 20. A seat for a shopping cart comprising: a gate pivotally mounted to a rear portion of a shopping cart; and a seat member made from a plastic material mounted to the gate of the shopping cart via a pivot mechanism to extend in a generally horizontal position to support a child within the shopping cart, the seat member defining a child seat portion and a cupholder positioned laterally of the child seat portion, wherein the cupholder defines a hole in the seat member and a ring positioned with the hole, the ring being sized and shaped to releasably capture a side wall of a cup to support the cup relative to the seat member, and further wherein the seat member comprises: a base member including a top surface; and a flap pivotally mounted relative to the base member and movable between a first up position in which access to the cupholder is enabled and a second down position covering the hole of the cupholder to prevent access to the cupholder, wherein the flap includes a top surface and a bottom surface including a recessed portion sized and adapted to cover and encompass the hole of the cupholder. 21. A seat for a shopping cart comprising: a gate pivotally mounted to a rear portion of a shopping cart; a seat member made from a plastic material mounted to the gate of the shopping cart via a pivot mechanism to extend in a generally horizontal position to support a child within the shopping cart, the seat member defining a child seat portion and a cupholder positioned laterally of the child seat portion, wherein the cupholder defines a hole in the seat member and a ring positioned with the hole, the ring being sized and shaped to releasably capture a side wall of a cup to support the cup relative to the seat member; and a flap including a main portion and a side portion, wherein the main portion is pivotally movable relative to the seat member and the gate, and wherein the side portion extends laterally from the main portion and is pivotally movable relative to the seat member and the gate independently of the main portion of the flap.
