A ferrofluid chamber has a housing that is adapted to be coupled to a component that generates a magnetic field of sufficient strength to stimulate anatomical tissue. In addition, a ferrofluid is disposed within the housing for cooling the component.

What is claimed: 1. A transcutaneous magnetic stimulation device, comprising: a coil for generating a magnetic field of sufficient strength to stimulate anatomical tissue; a chamber coupled to and substantially surrounding the coil, wherein the chamber contains a ferrofluid that experiences magnetic convection when exposed to the magnetic field; and a heat exchanger coupled to the chamber for cooling the ferrofluid, wherein the chamber is configured to facilitate thermal and magnetic convection of the ferrofluid between the coil and the heat exchanger. 2. The device of claim 1, wherein the heat exchanger is a heat sink. 3. The device of claim 1, wherein the coil has a ferromagnetic core. 4. The device of claim 1, wherein the coil has an air core. 5. The device of claim 1, wherein the device stimulates human brain tissue in connection with transcranial magnetic stimulation or magnetic seizure therapy. 6. The device of claim 1, wherein the chamber substantially surrounds the coil to substantially enclose an acoustic noise-producing region of the coil. 7. The device of claim 6, wherein the ferrofluid is resistant to shear sound waves. 8. The device of claim 6, wherein the ferrofluid contained within the chamber and the transcutaneous magnetic device form a first noise-attenuating interface. 9. The device of claim 6, wherein the ferrofluid contained within the chamber and the heat exchanger form a second noise-attenuating interface. 10. The device of claim 1, wherein the magnetic field is a first magnetic field, and further comprising a permanent magnet to create a second magnetic field, wherein the ferrofluid experiences magnetic convection when exposed to the second magnetic field. 11. The device of claim 1, further comprising a pumping mechanism to circulate the ferrofluid between the coil and the heat exchanger. 12. The device of claim 11, wherein the pumping mechanism is activated by a pulsing magnetic field causing circulation of the ferrofluid in a first direction when in the presence of the magnetic field. 13. The device of claim 12, further comprising a valve for preventing the ferrofluid from circulating in a second direction. 14. A magnetic stimulation system for generating a magnetic field having sufficient strength to stimulate anatomical tissue, comprising: a component for generating the magnetic field; a chamber disposed substantially around the component; a ferrofluid contained within the chamber; and a heat exchanger for cooling the ferrofluid, wherein the chamber is configured to facilitate thermal and magnetic convection of the ferrofluid between the coil and the heat exchanger. 15. The system of claim 14, wherein the heat exchanger is a heat sink. 16. The system of claim 14, wherein the magnetic field generated by the component drives the magnetic convection of the ferrofluid. 17. The system of claim 14, wherein the chamber is disposed around the component so as to substantially enclose an acoustic noise-producing region of the component. 18. The system of claim 17, wherein the ferrofluid is resistant to shear sound waves. 19. The system of claim 17, wherein the ferrofluid contained within the chamber and the magnetic device form a first noise-attenuating interface. 20. The system of claim 14, wherein the component is a coil. 21. The system of claim 20, wherein the coil has a ferromagnetic core. 22. The system of claim 20, wherein the coil has an air core. 23. The system of claim 14, wherein the component is used for stimulating tissue in connection with transcranial magnetic stimulation or magnetic seizure therapy. 24. The system of claim 14, further comprising a magnetic material for causing circulation of the ferrofluid in a first direction when in the presence of the magnetic field. 25. The system of claim 24, further comprising a valve for preventing the ferrofluid from circulating in a second direction. 26. The system of claim 14, wherein the heat exchanger is a heat sink. 27. A method of cooling a magnetic device, comprising: creating a magnetic field with the magnetic device, wherein the magnetic field is of sufficient strength to stimulate anatomical tissue; circulating a ferrofluid by inducing convection with the magnetic field; and cooling the ferrofluid with a heat exchanger, wherein the convection is between the magnetic device and the heat exchanger. 28. The method of claim 27, wherein the anatomical tissue is human brain tissue. 29. The method of claim 27, wherein the induced convection of the ferrofluid is magnetic and thermal convection. 30. The method of claim 27, further comprising creating a second magnetic field with a permanent magnet and circulating the ferrofluid with the second magnetic field.
