The electrical power generation system has a plurality of electrical generators electrically coupled to an electrical grid. The method includes obtaining a first output parameter value associated with the electrical power generation system. The method further includes determining an error value indicative of a difference between the first output parameter value and a desired output parameter value. The method further includes determining a first gain value based on at least one of the first output parameter value and a time-varying operational parameter of the electrical power generation system. The method further includes determining a first power value based on the error value and the first gain value. The method further includes determining a second gain value based on at least one of the first output parameter value, the time-varying operational parameter, and a reference value. The method further includes determining a second power value based on the error value and the second gain value. The method further includes generating a desired power command for the electrical power generation system based on the first and second power values.

A method for controlling operation of an electrical power generation system, the electrical power generation system having a plurality of electrical generators electrically coupled to an electrical grid at a point of interconnection, the method comprising: obtaining a first output parameter value associated with the electrical power generation system; determining an error value indicative of a difference between the first output parameter value and a desired output parameter value; determining a first gain value based on at least one of the first output parameter value and a time-varying operational parameter of the electrical power generation system, the first gain value determined independently of the error value; determining a first power value based on the error value and the first gain value; determining a second gain value based on at least one of the first output parameter value, the time-varying operational parameter, and a reference value, the second gain value determined independently of the error value; determining a second power value based on the error value and the second gain value; and generating a desired power command for the electrical power generation system based on the first and second power values. 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the first output parameter value comprises at least one of a reactive power value, a real power value, a total power value, a power factor, and an output voltage value. 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the electrical power generation system comprises a wind farm and the plurality of electrical generators comprises a plurality of wind turbines, and the time-varying operational parameter comprises at least one of a number of operational wind turbines in the plurality of wind turbines and an impedance of the electrical grid. 4. The method of claim 1, wherein the desired power command comprises at least one of a desired reactive power command, a desired real power command, a desired total power command, and a desired power factor command. 5. The method of claim 1, wherein obtaining the first output parameter value comprises measuring an output parameter of the electrical power generation system at the point of interconnection between the electrical power generation system and the electrical grid to obtain the first output parameter value. 6. The method of claim 1, further comprising determining the desired output parameter value utilizing at least one of a mathematical model indicative of desired operation of the electrical power generation system and the reference value. 7. The method of claim 1, further comprising transmitting the desired power command to the electrical power generation system to induce the electrical power generation system to generate an output parameter having an output parameter value that approaches the desired output parameter value. 8. A system for controlling operation of an electrical power generation system, the electrical power generation system having a plurality of electrical generators electrically coupled to an electrical grid at a point of interconnection, the system comprising: a measurement device configured to generate at least a first signal indicative of a measured output parameter value of the electrical power generation system; and a controller operably communicating with the measurement device, the controller configured to determine an error value indicative of a difference between the measured output parameter value and a desired output parameter value, the controller further configured to determine a first gain value based on at least one of the measured output parameter value and a time-varying operational parameter of the electrical power generation system, the first gain value determined independently of the error value, the controller further configured to determine a first power value based on the error value and the first gain value, the controller further configured to determine a second gain value based on at least one of the measured output parameter value, the time-varying operational parameter, and a reference value, the second gain value determined independently of the error value, the controller further configured to determine a second power value based on the error value and the second gain value, the controller further configured to generate a desired power command for the electrical power generation system based on the first and second power values. 9. The system of claim 8, wherein the measured output parameter value comprises at least one of a reactive power value, a real power value, a total power value, a power factor, and an output voltage value. 10. The system of claim 8, wherein the electrical power generation system comprises a wind farm and the plurality of electrical generators comprises a plurality of wind turbines, and the time-varying operational parameter comprises at least one of a number of operational wind turbines in the plurality of wind turbines and an impedance of the electrical grid. 11. The system of claim 8, wherein the desired power command comprises at least one of a desired reactive power command, a desired real power command, a desired total power command, and a power factor command. 12. The system of claim 8, wherein the controller is further configured to determine the desired output parameter value utilizing at least one of a mathematical model indicative of desired operation of the electrical power generation system and the reference value. 13. The system of claim 8, wherein the controller is further configured to transmit the desired power command to the electrical power generation system to induce the electrical power generation system to generate an output parameter having an output parameter value that approaches the desired output parameter value. 14. An article of manufacture, comprising: a computer storage medium having a computer program encoded therein for controlling operation of a electrical power generation system, the electrical power generation system having a plurality of electrical generators electrically coupled to an electrical grid at a point of interconnection, the computer storage medium including: code for obtaining a first output parameter value associated with the electrical power generation system; code for determining an error value indicative of a difference between the first output parameter value and a desired output parameter value; code for determining a first gain value based on at least one of the first output parameter value and a time-varying operational parameter of the electrical power generation system, the first gain value determined independently of the error value; code for determining a first power value based on the error value and the first gain value; code for determining a second gain value based on at least one of the first output parameter value, the time-varying operational parameter, and a reference value, the second gain value determined independently of the error value; code for determining a second power value based on the error value and the second gain value; and code for generating a desired power command for the electrical power generation system based on the first and second power values. 15. The article of manufacture of claim 14, wherein the first output parameter value comprises at least one of a reactive power value, a real power value, a total power value, a power factor, and an output voltage value. 16. The article of manufacture of claim 14, wherein the electrical power generation system comprises a wind farm and the plurality of electrical generators comprises a plurality of wind turbines, and the time-varying operational parameter comprises at least one of a number of operational wind turbines in the plurality of wind turbines and an impedance of the electrical grid. 17. The article of manufacture of claim 14, wherein the desired power command comprises at least one of a desired reactive power command, a desired real power command, a desired total power command, and a power factor command. 18. The article of manufacture of claim 14, the code for obtaining the first output parameter value comprises code for measuring an output parameter of the electrical power generation system at the point of interconnection between the electrical power generation system and the electrical grid to obtain the first output parameter value. 19. The article of manufacture of claim 14, wherein the computer storage medium further comprises code for determining the desired output parameter value utilizing at least one of a mathematical model indicative of desired operation of the electrical power generation system and the reference value. 20. The article of manufacture of claim 14, wherein the computer storage medium further comprises code for transmitting the desired power command to the electrical power generation system to induce the electrical power generation system to generate an output parameter having an output parameter value that approaches the desired output parameter value.
